For one you're either stupid or a liar. Nobody smart bets this kind of money and doesn't know the rules with book. Or demands a confirm.
Two, the solution is easy if you both wanna continue in good faith. 20k bet wasn't told 2k limit until after game so he should honor that. But you said after that he told you 2k limit. So your 25k should only be 2k and you should be -13k. That's as fair as it gets.
Also how are you 40k down betting at 2k limit? You're down 20 units after 2 weeks. Maybe you should quit.

I am having trouble believing the story. Though well crafted, I can't get past the author's following claim:
He watched the Dallas/Giants game under the "assumption of action".........switching from 2k to 20k and just assuming the bet has action on an unconfirmed text message? It's my belief that if the author had been trying to get out of his hole with a big bet than it would not been done with a text. He would have made every effort to notify his bookie that he was changing his bet to 20 to get out of hole and confirmed the action prior to kickoff. Multiple text messages requesting a confirmation and multiple voice mails left for bookie acknowledging the changed bet amount and requesting confirmation. Its impossible to assume Big Action without confirmation.
If I am wrong than I hope everything works out for the author.

This or find someone in Vegas you know and trust. Sounds to me like you don't have that kinda money and are chasing, if it's even true. Never trust a local bookie. EVER!

Truly ........to say you're 22 and have built a good life for yourself is comical. At 22 you're just staring out and probably don't have a great deal of assets and pretty much know f u c k a l l. Sorry I'm just being blunt here. This story could have some merit so I am going to go along with it, only because you seem extremely green and niev about the ways of the world, particularly the sports betting world. You've been betting 2 k all along and out of nowhere you try to lay 20k ????? Hahahaha.......what your bookie did was a classic example of free rolling you. If you lost the bet he was going to take your action and if you won the bet he was going to Refuse it. Because no confirmation was or ever had been given in the past plus the fact you'd been betting just 2k all along prior. He might have have thought the 20 was a typo and should have been your usual 2. The fact that he texted you back asking if you meant just 2k shows he had every every intention of free rolling you. Shows that he's experienced and you obviously are not. My advice is to pay up and consider this a lesson from the school of hard knocks.

In this situation you needed to make damn sure he accepted that bet for 20 large. You did not. You just hoped he would. He knew what he was doing by not confirming or refusing with you prior to the game starting. This is how free rolling is done. Sone On line books do it too when they put out errored lines.

You all are probably right, and that is why I am done. I have done well for myself at 22 years old, and I really can't throw it all away over this $hit.

My advice is to stick to 1000.00 bets and see if you're any good at this long term. Anyone can win 20 k in a season or lose 20k in a season. If you cannot manage your bankroll over a 2 or 3 year span. Forgo the investment aspect of sports betting and merely do it for fun betting 100.00 per game. It's a f u c k a l l amount but keeps you interested and entertained with no serious financial repercussions

It's extremely difficult now a days to go into any financial institution and ask for over 10k cash (of your own hard earned money) without being pretty much interrogated as to why and what it is for. To get 50 large is damn near impossible. Can be done but only with lead time and with great effort . Trust me I'm an expert in this regard

You seem like a fine young man Trilly........bet small for now. See how that goes before playing with the 10k chips.
Alien, I won't lie to you I don't feel comfortable paying this guy especially after that. I don't think it would kill me to tell him to screw off, if I'm wrong for thinking that tell me.

And Alien, 120k in equity makes me feel like I have nothing--even with my home paid off... I am just scared of my wonderful lady being affected by something like this. I don't know how to handle this stuff because this is unfamiliar territory.

Here it is plain and simple......You have two options. 1) pay him and put the whole matter to bed and your lady will never know. 2) tell him to screw himself and hope he doesn't come after you. If he does decide to collect there's a chance it could get violent and your lady will probably find out.
A wise man will ALWAYS choose option 1

Alien, it sucks because I'm always the nice one. That's why I went here to ask whether I am right or wrong, I don't have anyone else to ask who will understand.

Dude.....the reason you don't want to pay him and put it all to bed is because you have a scarcity mentality over that 18k or whatever it is you'll owe him. You feel that it's so damn hard to earn that kind of money and there isn't enough $ out there for you so you d better Hold on to what you have and tell him to F off. I used to think like that in my twenties. I m in my 40s now and earn 100k a month.
Pay him.

And if I pay my lady will more than likely find out, as she's seen previous bank statements. I'm so stuck and I've never been here Alien. I've been beating myself up all day over this.
