 Unfortunately, American history is not a strong point for many in Congress.

I say we make knowing history mandatory for members of Congress.

Hmmm.....ok, but when most of the trump-worshipping republicans in congress FAIL the test,   then what?   When they all are removed for that failure, there will not be a quorum and our government will be in GRIDLOCK -- with nothing being able to get passed to help Americans.

Big difference in hospitalization rates prove that vaccines work in reducing severe illness.  With many hospitals overwhelmed, vaccination is more important than ever. But sadly, ideological division constrains US ability to fight pandemic.  In past decades, vaccination of population is done without public protest or infodemic undermining public health.  Breakthrough infections aren't seen as vaccine failure, false promise, political stunt or big pharma greed.

Reading a new article today, I see where a new study reveals that the states with the strongest "gun laws" also have the the lowest "rates" per capita of gun related violence (homicides, suicides, accidental shooting)

As one might expect, concomitantly, the states with the weakest "gun laws" also have the highest "rates" of gun related violence.

It appears the blue states rank best and the red states rank worst, according to the study.

As a vet, I am a fervent defender of our second ammendment rights!  But also as a vet, I am equally fervent about gun safety and responsible gun ownership -- which is far too lax in this country.

That article on gun safety is excellent. Two sections really highlighted the issues for me. 

All states should start with a core group of five foundational laws—passing background checks and/or purchase permitting, along with Extreme Risk laws and secure gun storage requirements; and rejecting Stand Your Ground and permit less carry laws. While each of the top 14 states in the gun law rankings has all five of these policies in place, none of the bottom 14 states maintains any of these critical protections.

Notable strong law states like Illinois and Maryland remain plagued with high gun violence in their biggest cities—in large part because they’re targeted by traffickers. Indeed an outsized share of likely trafficked crime guns recovered in Illinois begin their journey in states with weak laws. And Virginia, which had weak gun purchase laws until 2020, has long been the top supplier of crime guns into Maryland. At the other end of the scale, states like New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island have unusually low gun death rates compared with their somewhat weaker policies, in part because they are buffered by robust laws among other states in the region.
