What theory? If teams were actually trying to win. They wouldn't keep or get sub par QBs for years. They wouldn't let Brady or Manning walk out if a stadium  healthy for a decade. They wouldn't go on fourth and waste points in FG range.

I obviously don't care which QB is better or think Garoppolo is that good. Just joined the sports debate party to help people feel good.

Teams have salary caps to deal with.  As for QBs signing one year contracts; what if they suck, what if they blow a knee?

Salary caps are pure fiction. No armchair fan has any actual clue what teams are paying out to anyone.
