haha that was a pretty tricky way to explain a hand, now knowing the knowledge you posted however i have one question. Why?
-He raised you utg so you have to assume at least an ace or a pocket pair, just an assumption off very basic basic poker knowledge and i know that when i am playing my A10 i am looking for flopping trips, broadway, two pair or the liking, especially vs an utg raiser.
-Anyway i dont think this was a good spot to make a play on the pot, this is kind of one of those spots were u need to have it or let it go, i know its easy to say after the fact but just hear me out.
-So you have the utg raiser, and weve narrowed down ahand range, he makes a follow up bet when the flop comes and this really means nothing to the hand because i know id probably follow up with any hand here just to try to take it down BUT, then you raise him from a late position to 200. Now what i am thinking at this point if i have a10, is that i really want to take the pot down here because i know that any player who raises me is probably going to either have me beat or be the favorite to come out ahead. However, this does not happen and i think this is where your plan flawed.
-I believe that when he reraises you here, even the minimum he is saying, (this is what i am going to infer based of the fact that you have never played with this guy, i found this to be true i nmy online poker career, not so much in my weekly homegames) i am not about to give up this hand, and i want to raise to keep control in the hand but i cant really tell where i am at. You were correct in your read that it was a scared raise and that he wasnt really looking for action but i just think you have to let a10 go here and wait for a better spot. Maybe ask him after what he had, saying you folded a pretty big hand to him and so you know what to expect when he makes a play like that.
-To be honest i wasnt as much surprised that you switched around the players as i was of the hand that you made this play with, i really dont like having a10 in this spot, although i dont really like to bluff either, but if i am about to risk 900+ in a pot, i want to make sure that if i get a call, i either have my hand made, or i have a big draw, like for example a10s or ajs which i stated in my previous post.
-In the long run, id say that if this guy continues to make these crying calls with AK he is going to get busted but to you i say that just because someone makes a minimum raise, it doesnt mean that they dont want action. I remember a pot that i played in this weekend, probably one of my best plays ever, not because of the amount i won but because my opponent had absolutely no idea of the strength of my hand. I have found that making the minimum raise is not nearly as bad of a play as it looks, if used in the right situation, it works well as a pot builder, a feeler bet, and also a value bet.
