Listen, you can rig any site just like you can rig any live game. Can sites be rigged in an easier manner? Of course.
But here's the key after the UB scandal. THESE SITES HAVE TOO MUCH TOO LOSE! Some of these sites have 10,000 tables going at once, collecting a rake off every single one with little to no overhead expenses. You couldn't even fit 10,000 poker tables on a baseball field, football field, basketball court, and soccer field combined...nevermind the # of dealers, chips, pit-bosses, cards, shufflers etc...
The bottom line is, online games can be trusted (for the most part) now and you are pretty much assured of a fair shake at lower stakes.
All that being said, playing live is more entertaining and is to your advantage for the most part because other players can't load your hand histories or know how often you bluff a turn card. Then again, you can't know that about them either so it's all about who the information is beneficial too.
