I hope the answer isn't against pocket aces... like heads up you both go all in preflop, then just muck them and split the pot.  Either way... I can't see this answer being any good


Folding pocket aces pre-flop is never a good idea, it can get you booted from the table, but it will leave a fold mark and then you can identify 2 of the aces for the rest of the game, so there are some benefits.

Only instance I can think of is if there is some crazy house rules and Aces are considered the lowest card in the deck.

Otherwise you are never folding pocket Aces preflop.

You're in a satellite to win one of 5 seats into a tournament and there are 6-10 people left, multiple people all in... that's really the only situation I could think of.  And it would have to be a satellite.

Tournament where top 10 (or 15 or 20 or whatever) pays all the same and you just need one more player knocked out to be in the money you have sufficient chips to fold it down.

especially if you are the short stack.

there are dozens of similar examples. I have friends who have done just this in big live tournaments

You should think about folding pocket aces anytime there are already 4 people all in ahead of you. Even against random hands you could be less than 50% to win against 4 players . Going all in knowing you have a less than a 50% chance at winning isnt a good iead against multiple people

cash game you do not fold aces if  8 people are all in.  Unless you are under rolled to play in the game you are in.  If all 8 players go all in you of course are not 50% to win but you ABSOLUTELY are in a +EV spot. The amount you are risking is worth the potential multi pot return.

And how is depeche right and I'm wrong?  he just took out the word satellite (aka a tourny where you win a seat -- the ONLY kind of tourny where multiple winners win the same thing) out and put in that 'they all win the same amount of $', what kind of a tourny is that??

In short, anyone who folds pocket aces pre-flop should be taken behind the woodshed. There is no logic in it, even in the bubble boy position.

This is obviously incredibly incorrect and you should real the above examples about having 4+ people 'all in' ahead of you.

By entering into the pot with that many players already all in, you instantly have a higher chance of being eliminated sooner than you would if you had just folded.

Having stated all that, what are the percentage chances of each of the 4 individuals that has gone all in? I'll bet its a lot less than the last guy with the pocket aces. The guy with the pocket aces is still the odds on favorite to win the pot. That's the objective, isn't it?

I'm not an aggressive player, but at the same time, I don't play with scared money.

Bullshit on that.  I'll take a 50% chance of going bust if it means taking equal money from 4 others.  Naturally.

You would NEVER fold pre-flop aces in a cash game.  Ever.  The only reason would be because of strange/rare situation in a tourney.
