What is your NUT FLUSH?

How do you define a nut flush?  Would you say that is an Ace high flush?  Highest possible flush?  Can a straight flush be the nut flush?

 

Here's a scenario.......You are holding AhKh.....the flop is 5-6-7, all hearts....Do you have the nut flush?

What the fuck ? Pick up a book or something dude. "The Nuts" are not an opinion. The Nuts are the best hand possible on the current board.

On a board of 567 hearts AhKh are the third nuts. [3h4h being 2nd nuts, and 8h9h being the nuts]

On a board of 2 4 7 rainbow, a set of sevens is the nuts.

The nuts do not mean you cant lose. It just means on the current board [whether that is post flop, post turn, or post river, doesnt matter] you have the best hand possible.

actually AhKh is the fourth nuts. 4h8h would be the third nuts.

Thats because your question is ridiculous. YOU CANNOT ASK SOMEONE "WHAT IS YOUR NUT FLUSH" you fool. You look at the board and the best hand possible is the NUTS.

Some people argue that the nut flush, and a straight flush are in completely different categories.

I tend to agree with Samuel, however.

8/9 of hearts would be your nut flush.

I know what the NUTS are, but thanks for the lesson........people say on TV and at the table all the time, "He/she has the NUT FLUSH".....all I am asking is, would you consider the Ace high flush the nut flush if there is a possible straight flush on the board....I wouldn't, but there seems to be different answers depending on who you ask

Maybe I titled the thread a little wrong....when I say "what is your nut flush", I'm saying what do you consider the nut flush, or what is your definition of it?

I have recently entered into a bet with a longtime friend and regular player for $1000.00 which I was hoping you could help me out on. The bet arose from a hand that played out which ended with one player holding an ace high flush and another a straight flush. The player with the ace high flush announced “nut flush” at the end of the hand and the other player then revealed the straight-flush winning the hand. I cannot recall or not if the straight-flush was the nut straight flush or not but it shouldn’t matter either way. The issue that came out of this particular hand was whether the player with the ace-high was incorrect in announcing he had the “nut flush” due to the fact that he was beat by a straight flush. My position on this is that there is a clear difference between having the “nut flush” and having the “nut straight-flush” or any straight flush for that matter. I believe that each hand category has a “nut”. Such as the “nut straight” or “nut full-house” and that the “nut flush” is simply the highest possible hand in that category. This bet has been going on now for over a month without either of us conceding. I have had numerous local players agree with my opinion and he has few that agree with him. According to his logic the “nut flush” could also be a royal flush which I believe is just ridiculous. A flush is five cards of the same suit that are not in sequential order. Therefore the “nut flush” would be the highest possible hand under than context. A straight flush is five cards of the same suit that are also sequential. I believe that by announcing a straight-flush as a “nut flush” is misleading and would be borderline slow-rolling in most circles and I would like to have some opinion's on the topic. Thanks for your help with this. I’m looking forward to finally ending this bet either way.

in that situation, i would say that you do have the nut flush

Saying you have the nut flush "in that situation" is like saying you have the nut straight [8s 9d.] Neither hand is the nuts.

I would never be silly enough to actually say out loud "I have the nut straight"....with a possible flush on board.

I never hear anyone say I have the nut set with straights and flushes on the board so why say you have the nut flush with possible straight flushes on board?

Only time I use the word NUT or NUTS is when I have the best possible hand on board. I dont think it should be used otherwise. My opinion. good luck all.

The nut flush is the best possible flush you could have for that specific hand.  If there are no royal or straight flush draws, the nut flush would be the Ace high.  If there were royal or straight flush draws, obviously the royal beats a straight and a straight beats an ace high.

Using your example, the nut flush draw would be 8-9 of hearts.

The NUTS is the strongest possible hand in a given situation.  So on a board of 5h/6h/7h, obviously the AK of hearts is not the nuts.  Sometimes, it only takes 1 card to equal the nuts also, regardless of your other card.  Obviously, on a board of 9c/9d/9h/2c/3s, the 9s is the nuts, regardless of your other card.

On a side note, in N/L OMAHA (high only) flopping the nut straight with no possibilty of improving your hand can lead to disaster.  If someone flops a set and the NUT flush DRAW versus your straight, you are in trouble.

The highest ranking flushes are those with five cards that also form a straight.  Purely speaking, the nut flush for all boards will have the ace as its highest card and will be the best hand unless the board is paired or is made up of three or four cards that makes a straight flush possible.

As your scenario reads, you have the nut flush, but you do not have the best possible hand. Someone holding exactly the 8 and 9 of hearts has the best possible hand.

Wrong. Nut flush is the highest possible flush, in this case, the 8/9 of hearts.

Having the "nuts" means you have the best possible hand at that particular time, meaning nobody can beat you "at the moment".

In this scenario, there are hands that can beat you, so you dont have the nuts.
