Read both SuperSystems. Still thumb through them alot. Read Caro's book, and thought it was mostly a waste. Helmuth's book was the first book I read years ago, and at the time it helped me alot. Read one of McEvoy's books about tournament poker, and I found it helpful at the time. Greenstein's book was decent, but a bit wacky.
I just read Matusow's autobiography. Not a poker strategy book, but a really quick read. That guy is such a clown. He's got to be one of the dumbest guys in poker. Nothing bad that happens to him is his fault. When he got arrested, he was entrapped. When he loses tournaments, he's card dead. He's just an idiot.

Winning Poker One hand at a Time, by Eric "Rizen" Lynch, "Apestyles" and Jon "Pearljammer" Turner.
Excellent hand analysis. Same hands discussed from three different pros points of view. Beyond Harrington tourney strategy discussion. Very good insights.

Interesting analysis. I never knew what to think of Matusow as a person or poker player. He was probably on TV a lot because someone was always loaning him money. Matusow seems like he might be fun to gamble with, but many other people have stated that he is an idiot. I am tending to believe that TV makes him look better than he actually is.

After he was sentenced (eight months, I think it was), he was broke. Right before he went to serve his time, he went to either Aruba or the Bahamas for a poker tournement. He won the tourney. He set aside the money he needed for his monthly bills while he was in jail. I can't remember how much the rest was, but I think it was about 250K. Before he went in jail, Howard Lederer met up with him and told him that he would be wise to invest the rest of the money in Full Tilt. He gave him a whole sales pitch and told him how he had a bunch of other investors. Matusow said no, and instead gave the money to a friend of his to place sports bets for him while he was locked up. The money was gone the first month into his bid, and all the people who invested in Full Tilt are rolling in it right now.
I don't remember the exact details, but that's the general idea of that story.

Matusow is an idiot in my opinion. He and Helmuth are the biggest whiners ever.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I really need to get through Doyles section on Hold Em of Super System. I have trouble reading it for some reason, seems unorganized to me.

I just recently go really hooked on poker memoirs. There's a little bit of anaylsis but it's mostly accounts of people trying to make a name for themselves in the poker world.
I'm currently reading Gus Hansen new book , Every Hand Revealed which got really good reviews.
btw , I also read a little bit of Matusow's biography just hanging around at the bookstore not planning to buy anything. You can read it in one day, it's hardcover and it's about $20-$25. I wasn't impressed with it enough to want to buy it. I didn't find anything new about "Mike the Mouth" I didn't already know after reading his book . I'll wait until it comes out in soft cover if it even does.
Poker Memoirs I've Read :
The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time - - by Micheal Craig
Big deal : a year as a professional poker player by Anthony Hoden
Bigger deal : a year on the new poker circuit also by Anthony Hoden
Ghosts at the table : riverboat gamblers, Texas rounders, Internet gamers, and the living legends who made poker what it is today by Wilson, Des.
Poker nation by Andy Bellin
Chris Moneymaker's Book: Moneymaker : how an amateur poker player turned $40 into $2.5 million at the World Series of Poker

He goes through his thought process on every hand he played when he won the 2007 Aussie Million tournament.
I love the way he describes his thought process before, during, and after each hand and how he describes his opponent and their tendecy. His outlandish plays make a lot more sense in this context. He points out a tendency for most players just before a break in-between sessions to "play things safe" and protect their stack and explains how he explains how he takes advantage of it. The diagrams are just like in poker magazines and make things lot more helpful to guide you through and keeps things brief and concise.
If you guys want a link to the torrent for this 2007 Aussie Millions Tournie let me know. Gus Hansen can be seen with his microphone which he used for notes for his book and some of the more memorable and important hands are on video. He has some pretty decent showdowns with Jeff Madsen and other players. (Jeff Madsen had a really nice bluff which might be on YouTube against another player ... ) Patrick Antonius was also a chip leader early on but lost chips quickly.

Sounds like you know the game pretty well, and if so:
Harrington's Vol 2 for NL Holdem tournaments is invaluable, in my opinion
Im better at NLHE tourney play than anything (still trying to improve). Want to get really good at that before I move on to NLHE cash games or any other games.
I have read Vol 2 already... its a great book.

I looked all over the place a few weeks ago and couldn't find a download. I ended up buying it. I love the book !
I have the iphone and downloaded the kindle app through amazon.com for free. Then you can download like 300,000+ books to your phone through what they call the kindle store on amazon.com.
The Gus Hansen book was the first book I downloaded and i love it. For instance today... I had to go get new tires on my truck and while i was sitting there for hours i just got out my phone and read a couple chapters. Also the books through the kindle store are cheaper than if you buy the paper copy!

killer poker online is a good book, it kept me from developing bad habits when playing online.
never read a tells book i'm pretty good at reading people, based on betting habits, personal reads i try not to do so much. I don't even think poker stars actually stare at people to try and get reads, it seems like they do it for TV. especially when they stare at a guy with a hoodie on, big sunglasses and is listening to music.

yeah, I really need to get that Kindle. I read a lot to kill time and I do the same thing you do , I bring my own books n mags wherever I go. That could be worth it for me.
All the poker books I've read recently were hard to put down; they all had good reviews and I can see why. I'm addicted to poker memoirs.

I would buy an ipod touch instead of the kindle. I think they are about the same price and you will download kindle software for free to the ipod touch but then have a ton of other features and apps. Both the kindle and ipod touch hook up to wifi.
