Yeah am sick of people always blaming the worker for the company failing, instead of the top people who basically bleed the company dry. When gm or any company makes the contract with the employees, you got to have the funds to cover those deals and if you dont then dont make the contract but to blame the workers for gm's problems just isnt fair. For one gm has never changed their model to compete with toyota and honda. They need a whole new line of vehicles that can go toe to toe withose other companies. This isnt the line workers fault, its managements fault.
Then again as our good friend slim would say, its the viagra gm is paying for that has killed the company. The less then 2 bucks a vehicle has done the company in.

I agree they have to change things up and cant keep doing business as usual. If i had to choose between bailing the auto makers out or the aig's, i would say bail the automakers out. If these 3 companies go under the ripple effect that would be created in this country would be unreal. People dont realize how much these companies are connected with other companies across the country. The job losses not only at the automakers but across the land would be massive.
Alot of these other bailouts am totally against and really believe they should just let them fail or be picked up by others.

The management does need to change it's models. They need to adapt to change a lot better than they have. Instead of lobbying Congress to write the regulations the way Detroit wants them, perhaps they should be producing more fuel efficient, well designed vehicles. These are management decisions. The workers will build whatever management decides they should build.
I believe 1 in 8 jobs are dependent on the auto industry. Remember the old saying, "As GM goes, so does the nation". There is a great bang for the buck here. If Detroit goes down, unemployment will cripple America. If the Fed bails them out, get guarantees from Detroit to retool their lines in a practical, universal manner, it'll be a big boost for all of America. The results and rewards will be shared in 1 out of 8 jobs in America.

This will be interesting WSC, Obama has said on 20/20 Sunday bankruptcy is not an option..but chapter 11 is really the only long range hope......and real change is what they need now.
The UAW will have to re-negotiate the contract and soon, no matter what gettelfinger has said to the contrary......
..and this means lower wages...in the range of $3/4 buck an hour across the board a the least ......and management too ......

Well if the workers have to take reductions in pay, then so should all the bigshots. All the huge management salaries and bonuses need to be cut then also. This cant be all about the regular workers taking a hit, so the top guys can have more.
I just know if the govt lets the auto companies go belly up, this country will be screwed bigtime due to the ripple effect. This is something i dont think any of us will want to see. This isnt about letting some bank go under, this is about companies connected in a lot of ways with the whole economy.

As far as retirees go, am sorry but they have got to be off limits because the company shouldnt have been raiding the retirement accounts. This is not a Republican vs Democrat issue. From what I have seen both parties are incredibly corrupt for backing all of the bailouts - ESPECIALLY the wall street bailout. Most if not all of this cash has been and will be a big waste as it filters to the pockets of the well connected.
Both sides of the isle strongly supported all of this because of all of their big ties to the industries. Do not be fooled, Dems are in the pockets of big business as much as the Republicans, if not more.
I think the banks should have been allowed to fail - period. Yes some short term consequences, but the INDUSTRY of banking can overcome that relatively quickly as other much better managed banks step in to fill the void.
The auto industry does need help. They do need to change their ways significantly - along with the airlines industry. A BIG part of it is the UAW - to argue otherwise is foolish. To let the big 3 die would be a big mistake IMO.
The whole thing makes me sick. But you and I have no control over it so life goes on. The next candidate that takes a very firm stand on no tax $ going to private and public industry gets my vote - either side of the isle.

This is because republicans hate unions and feel that the worker should get paid peanuts and be happy they have a job. This is their motto they live by. Low pay and no benefits thats the republicans creed. If it wasnt for the unions standing up the the corporations and republicans years ago, we would have never had a middle class in this country. This is what they are trying to accomplish once again, have 2 classes of people.

I feel sorry for the workers down south, these people are to dumb to even realize that they are getting grossly underpaid for the work they do. Republicans want to pay all people minimum wage, no benefits or retirement plans. They feel with that people should be able to support their families with these wages while buying their own medical insurance and funding their own retirement plan. They dont see why 8 bucks an hour isnt more then enough to accomplish this task

I feel sorry for the workers down south, these people are to dumb to even realize that they are getting grossly underpaid for the work they do. But hell they would rather live in poverty, then stand up against the corporations and republicans. They have been brainwashed with the republican agenda for so many generation of families, they really dont know any other way to think but republican. Maybe someday the power of the blue states can lead these people out of poverty and help them to break away from the republicans who have been holding them hostage for so long.
Republicans want to pay all people minimum wage, no benefits or retirement plans. They feel with that people should be able to support their families with these wages while buying their own medical insurance and funding their own retirement plan. They dont see why 8 bucks an hour isnt more then enough to accomplish this task
