Give me some facts, convince me because I always am 'Switzerland' before most elections and let the evidence guide me in the right direction. The fact that the Rebubs stalled the Senate and Congress for 5-7 years after Obama got elected hurting the middle class citizens from getting jobs, raises from advancing businesses told me everything of how the 'right' was now thinking ....it was all about their agenda of stealing from the system as much as they could get and not allowing others who didnt think like them to suffer....well, that is not being American or Republican in the original sense so count me out of the party until we get a sensible person leading its cause...and aligning with Trump because you are Republican  for life is blind.....and his bus will take you over the cliff with you in it...GL

One more thing, at least we can see some 'semi-transparency' from Clintons dealings but you can't deny that Trump is hiding very pertinent info for all Americans to judge fairly before this election on his tax returns.....as well as....him denying that he screws other people, hires Latinos at below market wages in his businessess and lets society pay for his failings.....nice right winger wouldn't you say......everything in the closest, lied about and denied about. If you like that, and many Repubs act like this in their lives, deny, lie and cheat, well, then you should stay with your party and be faithful but not me any more because it is not a true conservativism or patriotism.....its ME-ism

I remember when I went to Germany years ago, and also visited many of the obscure Nazi oratory sites, coffee shops, movie theatres, ratskellers, speaking pits, and other commonplace NSDAP hangouts.

Now that I think about it, I too have come to the conclusion that Donald Trump wants to lead the United States into a catastrophic global inferno and exterminate over 6 million people.  I mean, have you seen his latest book, "Crippled America?"  I couldn't read more than three pages until I immediately thought, "This is basically a plagiarized Mein Kampf! Holy crap!"

I will spare you all the details, but I have spent over 30 years researching and studying the Third Reich on a weekly basis.  However, I won;t spare you with the fact that you have never read Mein Kampf, which you referenced earlier, and are basing your "rock-soild Trump-is-Hitler" opinion on a tourist visit to a few sites and whatever you ears pick up from bulleted talking points.

There is nothing wrong with not liking Trump or even distrusting him, but please have some self-respect and stop embarrassing yourself with this ridiculous "Hitler" slant.

Of course there are parallels.  There are always parallels.  But see, this is what separates the layman on the street from the historiographer: the ability to understand historical correlation in proper context.

The average person on the street sees or hears about history and then shoehorns what they've seen or heard into their set worldview.  While this is done in order for them to better process what they've learned, from a historigraphical point-of-view, it has a massive probability of warping the truth tremendously.  This is the process that you have done, you mentioning your life with you brother and his experiences in direct proof of this process at work. 

For example, do you know that we had a president who confiscated all gold from private American civilians for the "sake of the fatherland?"  Do you know that we had a president that manipulated the highest court in the land until his actions were struck down?  Do you know that we also had a president that had the government build concentration camps and then sent the Army out to round up people of an ethnicity he disliked, confiscated their property, businesses, and bank accounts, and then had the Army ship them to the concentration camps?

Does this American president sound like Hitler to you? 

It should.  Because Hitler did the exact same things.

Of course, the president was Franklin Roosevelt.  But was Roosevelt an American Hitler?  Of course not.

How do we know that he wasn't?  By putting the history into its proper context, that's how it can be correctly adjudicated.

I will let you go through those three things I listed and think about, even though they are exactly the same things, why historians judge the man who did them much, much differently.

Hitler attained power 100% through legal means.  He could have been stopped by the Social Democrats and Christian Conservatives, but they did have the backbone for it.

Those are some interesting very clear parallels with Roosevelt and hilter tho.  Just like the very interesting very clear parallels with trump and hilter.    Not exactly the same, but the comparisons can be made. 

Seems like you are both right and the comparison with Roosevelt and hitler seems valid just like the comparison with trump and hilter seem valid.  

Glad that the this convo as legitimized the comparisons between trump and hilter using interesting parallels and not saying they are exactly the same but that there are similarities we can have civilized discussions about. 

Much better than taking an emotional stance and being so extremely offended that hitler is even brought up that logical analysis of parallels can't even happen and reducing the conversation to arguing whether we should even be able to talk about it. 

This could be out of fear, maybe bias, maybe it's just and emotional inability to have a civil dialog to begin with.  But I think through an intelligent and civil dialog we can at least have the discussion. Censorship and fear of a dialog result in a net loss and an overall dumbing effect.  Perhaps this is the agenda of some, maybe they do it unknowingly. 

But I like that you guys at least made compariins and elevated the conversion to talking about parallels rather than trying to censor it

You are talking about a different topic.  I am not talking about the inner party rivalries between the SA and SS nor the constant street fighting between the Freikorps and Communists during the Weimar Republic not the actions of the Stahlheim.

Yes, the Weimar Republic was very shaky from its very beginnings and had many difficulties surrounding it due to the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles, and later, the Great Depression.  However, Weimar Republic was not lawless, far from it.  Nor was it a failed state.

Not properly deducing that or making that distinction detracts from the argument of Hitler's rise to power.

The gist of my point in that point was, of course parallels can be made with anything.  You can find parallels between you and Hitler!  Do you care about animals?  Are you concerned about the environment?  Do you support President Obama's social programs and Obamacare?

You are Hitler!!!!!

No, of course you are not.  But parallels between you and Hitler, everyone and Hitler, everyone and anyone exist.

The work comes in through properly understanding history and its correct contextual light in order to truthfully understand what occurred and its effect on our world.

For example, if I say that I just shot a man in the chest tonight and he died.  What would you think of me?  Murderer?  Heartless?  Criminal?  Madman?

Probably.

But what if I said that I did that as he was attacking my family with a knife?

Oops.

And therein lies the crux of my post's argument.  Without proper, and correct, historical analysis through context, parallels of any kind are worthless.

Define a "failed state" ,treaty of Versailles and Hitlers service in the then Kaiser army. The fear of want of food the devastation of Germany and the complete ignorance of the need of league of nations all led to the rise of the third Reich .
By rebuilding Germany and the institution of the United nations and the reconstruction act delivered by Truman has led to peace in Europe an achievement that then was scoffed at by dewey supporters.

People throw out names like Hitler or Stalin like it calling them bad men. Its so far worse then bad . systematic extermination of humans to the scale of those two actors is far beyond any leader today grasp within the known free world. 
On celebrity apprentice last show I ever will watch of that series was Annie Duke and Joan Rivers in a board room meeting. Joan stated "... Your worse than Hitler" to Annie Duke I like poker and Duke and Harmon are both easy on the eyes to me duke was fired Trumps call its his show but Joan lost a ton of respect in many circles due to that comment. To many people devil himself is no worse than Hitler.
