Problem is that he did say what Dogbite said. Trump said trade wars are good and easy to win. That cannot be denied. You are trying to make this a semantics issue rather than accepting the moron said what he said.

That's total bullshit.
You think disagreeing & calling out the Liar In Chief is Un-American & it's far from that. It's Un-American not to point out this guy is 300 pounds of shit poured into a suit.
Trump being President is OFFENSIVE.
He has no plan to deal with China & every time he has a temper tantrum Americans suffer.
You got scammed by a con-man & don't have the cajones to admit it.
I rest my farking case!

He has no plan & his economic advisors are worthless. What's his plan to prevent further theft? Is he waiting for President Xi to give him his word like Kim Jong Un?
But this will end, he will declare a victory and Americans will have not have gained a thing.

SS, The problem is that Trump lacks class, respect and honor as a representative of this country. He might be making an effort in an area that needs effort but he lacks the ability to do so in a respectful and honorable way, he lacks this ability in pretty much anything he does.
Why are you so quick to let corps off the hook, corps benefit from our trade arrangement from China, even with regards to IP.
We allow things because parties who are paying the tab for politicians are benefiting from our arrangement. The US consumer has benefited, farmers have benefited there are many parties who have taken advantage of China, including Trump.

I know I discussed this topic in another thread years ago ; ironically not much has changed, but I do have to applaud Trump for confronting China (when no other U.S. president would) and pushing them to open up their markets like they were supposed to under the WTO.
So many will ask, why confront China in the first place ? It's because they entered the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the early 2000s, and have now FAILED to live up to their obligations as a member. Other countries "HOPED" that China would open up their markets once they joined, but that has been one big FAILURE. It is clear Communist China has no plans whatsoever to change their ways, and open up their markets to foreign companies. The CHEATERS (i.e. China) will continue with their stated sponsored subsidies of their own China companies, giving them an unfair advantage, and continue to restrict foreign companies to China markets unless they "pay up" and hand over their intellectual property. I remember calling this "Pay to Play" in that thread from a long time ago.
So, should Trump be attacked for confronting Cheaters ? No.
I see the limited "Phase 1" agreement being difficult for China to agree. The Cheaters constantly change the goal post and are now asking for existing tariffs to be eliminated in the Phase 1.
Credit to Trump for sticking to his guns. He's basically saying No reduction in existing tariffs unless they truly change their Cheating Ways (Phase 2 or Phase 3 agreement). No Phase 1 agreement ? Then, Dec. 15 tariffs go into effect . IMHO.
So who is getting played here ? I truly don't see Trump getting played as Wall has outlined. China's economy is in decline, and you have to credit the existing tariffs for giving them a few body blows.

I will say that Trump better be careful as the 2020 election is less than 1 year away. Additional tariffs will only hurt the world economy further, and potentially puts the U.S. economy in recession. This would be a disastrous outcome for anyone that believes low unemployment and GDP growth are good for the economy.

China has built its economy in part on research funded by taxpayers in the U.S., then siphoned across the Pacific Ocean by academics recruited by Beijing to act as double agents, stealing intellectual property from their American universities, a bipartisan Senate report revealed Monday.
The academics signed contracts that in some cases committed them to hiding their dual research status from their U.S. employers while giving China a first look at their work, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs permanent subcommittee on investigations found.
Beijing’s interest in stealing U.S. military and economic secrets has long been known, but the federal government was slow to act, the report says.
“American taxpayers have been unwittingly funding the rise of China’s economy and military over the last two decades,” said Sen. Rob Portman, Ohio Republican and chairman of the investigative subcommittee, adding that “our own federal agencies have done little to stop their actions despite being aware of China’s talent plans.”

In short, we can't trust the Chinese Communist Party as a trading partner. They steal our tecnologies. They steal our management practices. They flood our Mexican border with fentanyl. Decouple our cheap labor supply linkages NOW!

So, we are barely more than 2 weeks away from the Dec. 15th date for additional tariffs to be applied by the U.S. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Lots of economists and what not think a Phase 1 deal will be signed before the end of the year, but count me out as thinking that will happen. Trump will either kick the can down the road on the Dec. 15th deadline w/o any deal, or apply the tariffs if the rhetoric heats up... Side topic, the stock market is seriously overlooking the trade war and other data, and continuing to hit new highs on these deteriorating fundamentals. (i.e. GDP growth)

We really don't talk about the Chinese in this country. Aside from the massive debt of ours they own, the shear volume of U.S. real estate they have been buying is literally scary. Then, as you mentioned, the stealing of technology, the overall level of espionage in general... Like I said in one of brother Slim's threads, F*ck China. And, like Circ said, not the chinese people as a whole and in general.

That's pretty comical stuff right there.. Chinese practice true capitalism and no govt. interference ? Hell, you know they're a communist country right ? Even the Communist party admits they don't fully engage in true capitalism (i.e. free markets). They call it "Capitalism with Chinese Characteristics"

....Well said 'Slim. Quite a difference between the Chinese people that are fed the propaganda B.S. from state media TV and newspapers,...and the Hong Kongers that enjoy a connection to the free world.
