AG Merrick Garland faces a difficult choice: whether to appoint a Pence special counsel
CNN —
The Pence documents are now the subject of a preliminary review by the Justice Department’s national security division and the FBI. The findings of that review will determine what the Justice Department does next, officials say.
The three probes have put Garland and the Justice Department in a quandary as another presidential campaign looms. Appointing a special counsel for the Pence case would fuel criticism that the Justice Department is seemingly incapable of handling sensitive matters without bringing in outside help, while declining to do so is likely to invite the opposite criticism that not all cases are being treated equally.

However, many of Biden’s allies have suggested the cases are similar – and should be treated similarly by the Justice Department. They note Biden and Pence responded similarly to finding government records – by immediately notifying the National Archives, which contrasts with Trump’s months-long refusal to return government documents.

There’s too much information that’s classified. Too many people have access to the classified secrets. A lot of the information is classified for the wrong reasons because its disclosure would embarrass somebody or it would be inconvenient or would subject government officials to scrutiny that they would rather not have.”
Special counsel investigations into Trump and Biden are just the tip of the iceber
This week the National Archives wrote to representatives of living former presidents and vice-presidents requesting that they check their personal papers in case classified documents are still among them. Former officials from all levels of government discover
5 million document are deemed classified every year.
The bigger scandal here is not any particular episode involving the mishandling of classified information but rather the classification system itself, which is totally broken in ways that are bad not just for national security but for democracy,” Jaffer, 51, said this week by phone from Brooklyn, New York

Yeah, their classification system needs an overhaul.
However, deliberately taking boxes of documents from the WH then obstruction, leaves no room for doubt.

Yes this is the direct for the president eyes only newspaper... The problem is the traitor has dyslexia. He can't read. He been paying people to take tests turn in papers since he was in the first grade.
His academic career was removed the permanent file due to national security concerns...
He can watch t.v. and has a photo memory and can memorize lines but as to actual read a document, that's what he had Kushner in office every time.
Kushner besides being a genius could listen to anything without becoming emotional and discern what was true and what was exaggeration.
So when he asked to keep a document he needed his son in law to translate it so to speak.
Again t.v visual graphs charts pictures Trump understood and was incredible adept with that media, written words without an editor or spell check or computers speaking the writing. Trump is an idiot.

Now the document this is where no one can know. Because the president menu for the day is just as top secret aka classified as the nuclear launch codes.
Trump deals with leverage to get a great deal.
He with old the medicine from his brother to get him to sign a contract as an example.
He needs secrets to use to influence outcomes and having the dirt on law makers judges professionals zoning officers ECT IRS agents great time in Vegas pictures kept him with an advantage....so to speak.
The other's who kept documents I am not sure because no one has the only one there is always one clean copy of every document the president seen stored in national archives.

The facts revealed about former vice Mike Pence does not let Joe Biden or the MAGA-MORON off the hook.
If a crime has been committed by any of them it should be thoroughly investigated and treated on its merits possibly for criminal prosecution.
But nature1970 makes a good point that classification of documents might need a long look under the hood.
On the surface at least it seems a stretch that the memos Mike Pence had in his possession that were prep notes for him to various meetings needed to be labelled "classified"

Why because they could not devulsge any thing in the store house... Trump didn't make copies ....
See what's use is it to leverage secrets if they aren't secret. Lindsey graham and the boy toy...if that was known graham would be toast and Donnie would need to get another senator on the hook as an example....

Of course trump wanted a special procecutor.

An elaborate ruse perhaps. Biden and Pence come clean, but trump? Oh phuckNO!
After all in his own words he is "the chosen one" and everyone should know that he is (his words) "the most honest person that God ever created"

Yeah, that does seem a bit odd. I suspect that rule will be altered first.

Upon further review the FBI seems satisfied now that no further classified documents will be found in Mike Pence's possession or in Joe Biden's possession.
But recently the two dudes Trump hired to look for documents in his possession have been brought in by special counsel to testify about the possibility of others Trump might still have.
