In the first 12 years of the new century, Detroit lost more than 26 percent of its population.

And now Detroit’s desperate request for a bailout has been turned down by the Obama White House.

Progressive politicians, wonks, and activists can only blame big corporations and other liberal bogeymen for so long. The truth is that corrupt machine politics in a one-party system devoted to the blue social model wrecked an entire city and thousands of lives beyond repair.

The down turn in the Big 3 played a big part in what finally happened to Detriot, but the ruin of the City of Detroit started after the 1967 riots. .and the continued with the white flight to the suburbs... in 1973 Detroit elected it's black Mayor ..perhaps the most corrupt mayor in America, outside of Richard Daley in Chicago,the exodus continued ..leaving empty houses and lost revenues ..

Then in the late 70's oil prices skyrocketed, the Mideast Oil Crisis hit in...and the major Detroit car manufacturers were caught making the large 400 series gas guzzling engines...while small foreign made cars with much better gas millage were already on the market . The Big three gave up hugh market share and never fully gain it back ...

 The people of the City of Detroit were to find out that African-American poverty was not alleviated by African-American leadership.. with a string of black Democratic mayors who's policies were designed to loot the city’s treasury..Kwame Kilpatrick is another fine example..

Yes, the Automotive manufacturers play a role,but the real ruin of the City of Detroit was due to mismanagement, incompetence and corruption by the people they elected and kept electing..

What makes me want to puke is that most of you seem to be joyful that Detroit is bankrupt ? An American City ! Your City too ! And then blame black people, as if no other city became a ghost town throughout our history !

Yes, maybe the auto industry built too many big gas guzzlers in the 1960-1980s. But remember this you foreign lovers, they built the tanks that saved your As from speaking German, Japanese.

Then during the gulf wars when they tried to recover and began offering 100,000 mile warranty on their vehicles, did you step-up and buy to help save them, like we did by buying war bonds in the 1940s ? No joy in the fact that Detroit has filed for Chapter 9 protection ,but after 50 years Democrat control it's time for a little tough love for the City of Detroit..

Don, why is that great American car company, GM, building a new  $1.3 Billion plant in China instead of Detroit? Shouldn't they be helping the American economy and workers instead of moving good paying jobs offshore? Or are they just another greedy corporation trying to cut costs and maximize profits at the expense of the American worker?

Just last year GM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel F. Akerson said 7 out of 10 of GM's vehicles are made outside the United States...are thes the "foreign lovers"and "proud Americans" you are referring to ?

GM was paying a decent wage. If they build in China, they can pay whatever. It's not like they closed up shop in the US. they are still here. They are not like Walmart, ripping the employees off.

There are more than 80,000 abandoned houses,factories and businesses in Detroit so only 76,000 of those democrat building structures are slated for demolition. The City of Detroit averages about 14 arsons a day..  so the rest will be left for the residents to burn down ..
