Can you explain how blocking the completion of a leg of pipeline not operable at the moment causes us to now need to import oil from Russia and Venezuela? And to go deeper, we never stopped importing oil from these places. We expert oil to. It goes back and forth. The Keystone is just a way to ship chinese owned Canadian oil to refineries in the US. We didn't stop shipping this incredibly dirty tar sand oil to American refineries using the Keystone system. We are just blocking the latest leg of the system. It's not our oil anyway. We would still be importing.

As is generally the case, Stu hits the points well with his posts in this thread. To simplify, gas is oil crude based on price fluctuations. Those are generally indexed as futures and see 14-21 days before current events see changes passed on to the consumer. One of the reasons for this are that anti-trust actions prevent gas/oil companies from increasing prices with existing supply...that is the increase is to allow for future purchase.
