US is already energy independent because exports exceed imports. However prices remain high because fossil fuels are a global market influenced by conflicts around the world. Governments don't own companies that choose to sell oil to the highest bidders. Increasing leases and permits won't change that. Oil industry is sitting on 10 years worth of leases and thousands of approved permits for drilling. More profitable for industry to limit supply to keep prices high. Ultimately in the long term, the solution to high prices is a transition to renewable energy. Not more reliance on limited world supply of fossil fuels controlled by global markets. Cost of renewable energy is becoming cheaper as investment and technology continue to improve. For example, wind or solar can be cheaper than coal power plant.
You ever get pricing for solar? (oh wait, third is a leftist bot) How'd that turn out? Does the sun have direct sunshine in every part of the world? How do you store the solar energy? Is there enough wind to power all cities? How do you harness solar wind?
If it CAN be cheaper, why hasn't it completely taken over coal? Easy answer, it's not cheaper. Keep wishing.
There's nothing wrong with wind and solar as a reducer to fossil fuels. Same with electric vehicles. (Except wind turbines ulgy as hell)
To believe they can replace and end fossil fuels is delusional at best.

For solar, average cost of $0.03 to $0.06 per kilowatt compared to $0.05 to $0.17 for fossil fuels according to Renova. Currently, 19% of US total electricity comes from renewable sources which is close to nuclear power's 20%. United nations forecast that renewable energy could supply half of world total electricity by 2030.
