In mostly republican states, unpopular abortion laws don't reflect the will of the majority. Every state that held a referendum voted against abortion restrictions. This is true democracy! Voting for a policy is different from voting for a candidate. Allowing states to dictate abortion laws allow anti-abortion minority to use a divide and conquer approach to overrule majority.

Trump just said the States should decide on abortion. Looks like abortion is off the Nation stage now and in the induvial States. This means most will vote on open border immigration issue and the economy.
Makes it a very easy choice if that is the top voting topics.

@thirdperson Who cares about a 'true' democracy. That is not the system for a reason. Think about how uniformed the average person is and what huge followers they are and how easily influenced they are. Majority of people are absolutely not qualified to have any idea what is best for most major decisions for a country.
Under that same token, in the arena of modern politics, many of out elected officials are just as uninformed. And all serve donors, not their constituents. I would say,even given how uninformed, and unqualified, the modern voter may be, true democracy is needed more now then ever.
Even with that said though, I still support the electoral college, so we'll probably never have "true" democracy.

But shouldn't we strive for that? Otherwise the pendulum swing to far in the other direction, where money and private interests make all the decisions. Then we have no democracy.
