First of all, I think it was time that some of these hedge funds got hit with some of their own medicine. They play the pump/dump game all the time, but they'll tell you there's no proof of that.
The Robinhood site/app touts itself as a place for the average investor to compete like the big boys. But when they limited their clients to sell-only option the other day during the Gamestop surge they violated their own, & probably some legal, practice. They interfered with trading.

You're a fucking idiot. That's first. Second, I don't follow any "leftwing dominated news (double exclamation point)". Third, I was speaking specifically to mugg. I have been well affair of all developments related to this, pretty much from when it first started to catch fire on reddit and was only asking "scandal", again, specifically to mugg, because I wanted to know which side of the coin he was on. Was he in favor of the short sellers, and therefore believed it was a scandal that social media would be used to manipulate the market in that way. Or did he believe the scandal was the scandal was in trading sites preventing the purchase of game stop.
Thank you, MUGG, for answering. I feel the same way about it as you. I believe the whole practice of short selling is sickening, especially given the way it contributed to the sub-prime mortgage crash.
Uniman, you're alright in my book but you don't have to aggressively respond to ever post or use said post to insert some cliche ass, stock covers political forum response about "the lame street media" or some asinine shit like that. You know nothing about me. Not my political affiliation. Not where I read my news. And sometimes, certain people on this site have a rapport with certain other people, and while in a public forum, they are speaking directly to said people. You don't have to feel the need to respond, especially if that response is inflammatory. I do commend you on providing info/links, ect. for people unfamiliar with the story but i'm an investor AND a millennial (though I don't claim it). I've followed this story in a very organic way, from the inside. I didn't need any media outlet to report it but for the record, literally every media outlet HAS reported it.

Mugg, while I agree with you and relished in the fact that the the short sellers got a swift kick in the balls, sites like Robinhood, and there were others, had to limit traders to a sell-only option. I'm not sure about the legal ramifications but from a practicality standpoint, this is what I know. Gamestop isn't some social media company whose value is based on whimsy. They are a tangible thing. A brick and mortar store that sells a product. (Social media companies sell a product too. A very dangerous and scary product but you're in Seattle, you know all about that.) but Gamestop is an old dog ready to go out to pasture. It simply is no longer a viable business model. So while it's been one hell of a ride, the thing essentially becomes a pyramid scheme. And as people continue to buy in, somebody's gonna be left holding the bag. People aren't going into Gamestops anymore. That's shit's gonna be Sun Coast in like a few months. Fucking Tower Recordszdx. And a bunch of people on a subredit isn't gonna change that.

You're right, in this particular case it's a pyramid scheme though maybe unintentionally. Gamestop is what.....a $10 stock? While the reddit crowd might have crushed a few hedge funds, a lot of people now own a stock @ 30x its value & yeah, many will be left holding a bag of dung. Unless they have a way to ease out & not take massive losses.
But the point of the scandal is that platforms like Robinhood shouldn't be interfering with trading like that. They are a medium.....an avenue for trading stock, not the market chairman.

Oh, I agree 100%. And this is a feel good story but the sad epilogue is that there are a ton of not even day traders that are gonna be left holding gold medal flour.

Excuse me, who is this post directed to?? Don't see the name MUGG anywhere there.
Second, I provided you with links, both a Left view and a Right view I believe. Always try to see both views myself before making any personal conculsions.
Third, I went to Yahoo News, scrolled down the entire page and there was NOT ONE mention, at that time, of GameStop issues, only Trump this, Trump that. It was then I posted the bit about the media. It was not meant to be a slam against you, if you took it that way, I apologize.
I have never once called anyone on Covers a "fucking idiot", don't believe in talking like that.
And, I posted while you were asking Mugg(post #48), didn't see that at the time.

How do you know when to get off a Stock?
When your Uber driver is touting the Stock and Joe Sixpack is reading the Market Section.

You're an alright dude and I was out of line calling you a fucking idiot. This site is just maddening sometimes. I know this is the politics forum but sometimes you want to have a conversation w/out it being turned into political muckslinging.

Maybe you live in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota but in any developed city your Uber driver or Joe SixPack may have a finance degree or a freakin' MBA but as far as this conversation, the time to get off this stock was to never be on it. As I mentioned before, it has literally turned into a pyramid scam and someone is gonna be left holding the bag. A bag of shit.

MUGG, your explanations on Robinhood/GameStop, very good, thank you!
Stump, I'm gonna ramble on here, bear with me. I'm a retiree, 2 yrs now. Before retirement, was working everyday, watched the six-o-clock news and didn't give a shit about politics. As a young boy, saw the 1967-68 riots, went to an inner city integratted school. Worked in the public sector all my life. I saw discrimnation, from all sides. What I see now scares the shit out of me, our country is worse off than ever before and the downward spiral continues.
As a retiree, with time on my hands, I began watching the news media. Thought Trump was a kook saying "fake news, fake news". Charlottesville was the eye opener for me. No matter what Trump said the media said he was siding for White Supremists, Nazi's. Here's his first mention of Charlottesville;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMQWJDVg8PA Even after saying what he said every chance the media had they asked him about WS, even in last fall's debates. What he said in this video is my belief. Too bad Biden doesn't have the balls to say that.
The next day a reporter got into a sparring match with Trump, trying like hell to discredit him. And so it went, on and on, in fact it had started from the day he won election, I just was not paying attention then. Too busy, I had a career, and your only as good as the info you are fed and the time you have to get information.
So yes, I have a lot of distrust of our current media. I blame them for most of our country's woes.

That's ironic because I would posit that the country is no where near as worse off as it has ever been and the only reason you feel this way is because the media outlets you adhere to, print, television, or otherwise, want you to feel this way. It's manufactured fear. It's manufactured dissent. This is the business model of the media, ALL MEDIA, and if you don't understand this than we are at an impasse All news is fake news. Even that which you take as gospel. The bane of our country is not white supremacist and it is not antifa. It's baby boomers sitting around all day watching cable news. Pardon my being facetious but seriously. You guys are the worse.

I retired early...... about 4 years ago.....right before Trump took office. I didn't vote for him, which made it 3 consecutive POTUS elections that I left that position blank on my ballot due to not liking any of the choices (sure as hell couldn't vote for Hillary). I never had, nor took, the time to follow politics very closely until maybe 10 years ago. I knew I lived in lib country up here but I've been appalled at how much even the local media lies about/spins the truth. Just an example......a week or two ago, an anchor on one of our local stations was updating the Rittenhouse story, saying "the young man opened fire into a crowd of protesters with a military-style assault rifle". This story is not new. The facts are known. There are multiple videos of it. Is this just piss-poor reporting or a spin of the truth? I agree with you, Stump.........they manufacture this stuff. It's insulting.
Trump is a dooshbag, but I happened to agree with some of what he was trying to accomplish. The all-out media assault on him was shameful, though I'll agree that his combativeness helped to perpetuate it. I barely fit into the "boomer" category, age-wise, & I don't sit around all day watching cable news (I understand your comment was tongue-in-cheek). I watch CNBC with my a.m. coffee & then I'm off & running, either playing golf, doing chores, or repairing electronics. But I did notice the difference in what some media sites CHOSE to report. MSNBCNN never showed any of the nighttime rioting going on up here all last summer........& the local stations were more interested in indicting the SPD for their use of "force" in trying to contain them than condemning the riots themselves. Seattle has turned into a shithole over the L10 years & the mayor, council, & Gov'r. have let it happen. I go down there for ball games, concerts, dinners, etc. around 15-20x/year. Not sure I'll be doing much of that in the future.
So yeah, I give the media credit where credit is due, whether it's good or bad. But the biggest change over the L4-5 years? Social media. I can't believe how many people are glued to their facebook & twitter accts., even when they're with a group of people in person. These useful "tools" have turned into weapons.
