White House reiterates that US is ready to act if Russia invades Ukraine

The Biden administration on Thursday reiterated its warnings to Russia over a potential invasion of Ukraine, with one senior administration official telling reporters that the US is "ready to act if and when we need to."

Unlike the previous republican administration, the Biden admin  will come to the aide of our allies --- and NO QUID PRO QUO!

"We have been clear that there will be significant consequences" if Russia attacks, the official said. The penalties would be coordinated closely with US allies and partners and would severely damage Russia's economy, the official said. Such a move would also result in NATO capabilities being moved closer to Russia.

In a statement posted to Twitter on Thursday, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss used similar language, emphasizing that any incursion would be "a massive strategic mistake and would be met with strength, including coordinated sanctions with our allies." She condemned Russia's "aggressive and inflammatory rhetoric" against Ukraine and NATO, adding that the UK's support for Ukraine was "unwavering."

  (CNN)The US is alleging that Russia has been preparing to "fabricate a pretext for an invasion" of Ukraine, this time using a "graphic" video that would depict a fake attack against Russia.

A senior administration official told CNN that the US has intelligence suggesting that the Russian government, with the help of Russia's intelligence services, has been planning to produce a propaganda video depicting graphic scenes of a "staged false explosion with corpses, actors depicting mourners, and images of destroyed locations and military equipment," the official said. The US believes Russia has already recruited actors to be involved in the fake attack.

Russian forces at 70% of level needed
for full Ukraine invasion - U.S. officials

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Russia has in place about 70% of the
combat power it believes it would need for a full-scale invasion
of Ukraine and is sending more battalion tactical groups to the
border with its neighbor, two U.S. officials said on Saturday.

In the last two weeks, the number of battalion tactical groups
(BTG) in the border region has risen to 83 from 60 as of Friday
and 14 more are in transit, the officials told Reuters on condition
of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the information.

As to the timing of an invasion, the ground is expected to reach
peak freeze around Feb. 15, the officials said, allowing for off-road
mechanized transit by Russian military units.
Such conditions would continue until the end of March.
