Media: Maddow and MSNBC both WIN HUGE 1stQ ratings; CNN is #2; FOX continues to lose viewers

Q1 2021 Nielsen Ratings:

For First Time Ever,
MSNBC Is Most-Watched Cable Network
Across the 24-Hour Day! 

Adweek, March 30:

MSNBC made history as  the #1  network
in  all of cable television  for the 1st quarter of 2021.

The historic win marks the 1st time MSNBC has finished #1 for a quarter 
(ahead of #2 CNN, #3 FOX News and #4 HGTV), according to Nielsen.

Viewers turned to MSNBC during a quarter dominated by unprecedented
breaking news including the Capitol insurrection, the inauguration of
President Biden and Vice President Harris, the 2nd impeachment trial of
Donald Trump, the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine and more.

With regards to evenings only:

Fox News was the most-watched network in primetime averaging 2.4 million viewers,

with MSNBC finishing second with 2.2 million viewers,

followed by CNN’s 1.9 million watchers.

*NOTE: this shows again that more Americans prefer to watch left-leaning programming

(total 4.1 million viewers) than Fox's conservative/pro-trumpism content (2.2million viewers)

In the key age 25-54 demo for the full day,

CNN led the 1st quarter with an average of 352,000 viewers,
  •  225,000 for Fox and
  •  219,000 for MSNBC.

In evening primetime key demo (age 25-54)

CNN with 535,000, (thanks to Chris Cuomo)
Fox News with 408,000 and
MSNBC with 375,000.

Greenblatt and the ADL spoke out against Carlson earlier this week
after the host accused Democrats of “trying to replace the current
electorate, the voters now casting ballots, with new people,
more obedient voters from the Third World.”

Greenblatt called the concept of “replacement theory” as described by
Carlson a “staple of white supremacist and extremist ideology.”

Fox News came in third place  in the first quarter of 2021,   overall,

behind  MSNBC and CNN.

Tucker Carlson sneers at critics
as he doubles down on racist,
'replacement theory' remarks

Carlson was never going to apologize for or retract his racist remarks.
But he could have chosen to ignore the controversy, move on, and let it die out.
Instead, he did the opposite.
Carlson opened up his show by first replaying the comments he made last week —
comments in which he essentially endorsed the racist "great replacement" theory.
Then he mocked critics who were outraged he had done so.
"It is amusing to see them keep at it."

Making a mockery of those with very real concerns about his rhetoric wasn't enough
for Carlson. He then went on to recite the core element of his RACIST
"great replacement" conspiracy theory, portraying it to his viewers as accurate.
"Demographic change is the key to the Democratic Party's political ambitions,"
Carlson said.
"In order to win and maintain power, Democrats plan to change the population
of the country." Carlson told his audience that the "goal" is "to make you irrelevant."
He said it is "provably true." Over and over again, he referenced "demographic" change.

In 2021 1st Quarter Cable News Ratings:

• Rachel Maddow was the most-watched host in cable news!

In the key demo, for the 1st quarter:
CNN was up 22%,
MSNBC was up 7%
and Fox News was *down* 33% 

And in the vital key demographic of adults aged 25-54,
most highly valued by advertisers due to largest audiences,
CNN placed 3 shows in the top 5, including top spot!

1st place  - CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time with 658,000 viewers,
2nd place - MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show (618,000 viewers),
3rd place - CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360,
4th place - Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight (575,000 viewers)
5th place - CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront (544,000 viewers).

Specifically in the 9 p.m. ET time slot of that KEY DEMO,
Cuomo Prime Time’s victory over The Rachel Maddow Show
pushed Fox News Channel’s Hannity to a third-place finish -
- the first time that’s happened in 21 years.

CNN’s win was the network’s overall best delivery in the 9pm time slot ever.

For the full first quarter, evening prime time ratings were

*up* 35% for CNN and

*up* 16% for MSNBC - compared to first quarter 2020.

Fox News plummeted by a whopping 27%!
