Can Ed Gillepsie call this a moral victory if the results hold and he loses by 2 - 3 % when Virginia is a heavy Democrat state that Ralph Northam was supposed to win in a landslide and barely squeaks by? Could Gillespie blueprint of using cultural issues mixed with low taxes and fiscal responsibility be a blueprint for a winning strategy in the 2018 midterms?

Its simple: Gillespie was the lesser of 2 evils. He didn't embrace Trump or conservatives until the very end and the people of VA saw through it. The GOP had better get this through their head: Any other candidate LY vs Hillary or Bernie loses by 10-15 points. Trump is the Republican party
Gillespie is the swamp. He's a Bush republican and i said this 2.5 years ago on here and that is in the both parties the day of the Moderate is over. You're either a Trump Republican or a Sanders Democrat. The day of the moderate is more dead than my hair
I love Trump but his son in law has given him sh%tty advice endorsing Big Luther and Gillespie

i do not really have feelings one way or the other regarding the main content of this post. However, I do not think it is accurate to call Virginia a heavy democrat state.

53.9% vs 45% tonight, close to 9 % victory, it's a sound victory to the Dem..

I wonder if Republicans could have done better to turn out the vote among Trump voters in the Southwest and Southern counties if Corey Stewart had been the nominee? Seems to me they had the worst of both worlds. A bland corporatist swamp monster lobbiest connected with the hated Bush administration duping voters and stealing money since he was 18 pretending to be a cultural warrior pledged to defend conservative morals.

The Democrats racked up huge gains in the Virginia House of Delegates. Suburban moderates swung left as Gillespie harshened his rhetoric in the closing days of the campaign.
I don't know if the Democrats won enough Republican seats to flip the House of Delegates. I did see one race where the Republican held a 12-vote lead. That sounds like a recount is highly likely.

virginia's house of delegates was 66% republican before yesterday. not sure how that qualifies as a heavy blue state. i'm sure they've gerrymandered the garbage out of the state but 6% is, or was, a significant number.

It appears that Steve Bannon is in full fledged steering of the GOP party to his "alt-right" destiny. Under Trump and Bannon, GOP is a traditionally conservative party no more, it's more to the alt-right oriented.
