Trump falsely claims China is paying for his tariffs which is similar to Mexico paying for the wall. Tariffs are taxes on goods paid by American importers. According to National bureau of economic research, 100% of the cost of tariffs are passed to US consumers and businesses. According to Princeton university, Americans are paying over $800 annually per household. According to US chamber of commerce, Trump tariffs cost $billions in lower GDP growth and thousands of job losses. Trump's claim that China's currency devaluation pays for tariffs doesn't hold water. A small devaluation doesn't make any difference. No evidence chinese exporters are reducing prices to accomodate tariffs. Economists reject Trump's argument that trade deficits arise from other countries taking advantage of the US. Actually, Americans buy more than they produce and imports fill the gap. Since US dollar is the world's currency, US can borrow money cheap and take advantage of other countries.
Buy American. It costs more. Sadly, the wealth disparity makes this difficult but we should all make the effort to buy American when ever available and economically feasible. I don't adhere to the do nothing approach. I'm from a port city. I grew up walking distance from one of the busiest ports in the country. And even at a young age I had a joke. I'd say to someone, "You ever notice that more container ships come in than go out?" The person would say yes. Neither of us knew if this was even true but it was always the set-up. So they'd say yes and i'd say, "The ships that come in are full of cheap chinese goods and in return those that go out are full of our money shipping off to China." I've been saying this since grade school. I was a very forward thinking child. So while I realize the flaw in implementing tariffs, while I realize how they negatively effect our economy and are nonsensical in a global economy, I can't subscribe to, "That's just how it is and there's no changing it. We'll always be importers. We'll always be consumers rather than producers. And we'll always pump money into China's economy, then turn around and borrow it back from them.
I know all you old fuhks have seen "The Godfather". Do you know what I feel like when I here Americans say, "...but China .....but in a global economy, ...but ...but ...but"? I feel like Michael Corleone listening to his brother, Fredo, say, "You don't come to Las Vegas and talk to a man like Mo Green like THAT!" All while Mo Green is punking him. Making him look like a sucker. You know what? F*ck Mo Green. Maybe it's cutting your own nose off to spite your face but sometimes you just gotta say, F*ck Mo Green. And frankly, F*ck China.

Two more acts of domestic terrorism took place last night. When will it stop?
It's tragic. We can make it a debate about gun control but more than anything, this needs to be a discussion about mental health in this country. And part of that discussion is the lack of mental healthcare coverage but that is only part of the discussion. We need to remove the stigma of seeking help. The stigma of talking to somebody. We need to view mental health as we do regular health. Everybody needs a check-up every now and then. Doesn't mean you're crazy. We all need help every now and then.

Only difference I see here is on the matter of gun control.

Can't seem to get the original posted properly. Basically it said other countries have mental health issues, broken families, vicious video games, alcohol & drug addictions problems but not mass murders because they have strict gun control laws that don't allow the mentally challenged to own firearms.
These attacks IMO are not a spur of the moment action but rather a boiling pot that eventually explodes. These are well planned & the shooter comes to grips with the fact they will probably die. Having said that, they are sane enough to know they will not be walking away in many cases.
It's anyone's guess how many boiling pots we have out there.

Midnight1 is right about the myth that mentally ill people are more likely to be violent. Under 5% of all gun related killings in the US are committed by the mentally ill according to National center for health statistics. Mass shootings require a level of sanity and planning that defies many with mental disorders. Actually, insane people are 3 times more likely to be victims instead of perpetrators. Although shooters are mostly angry young men seeking revenge, American psychiatric association admits that predicting future killers is almost impossible.
Trump is soft on white supremacists and dismiss them as a threat to national security. But most domestic terrorist attacks are committed by far right extremists according to FBI. In a vacuum of moral leadership, Trump incites fear and hatred of minorities and migrants. His constant attacks inspire an ideology where misguided people interpret violence as a legitimate excuse. As a result, more hate crimes.

Why do the shootings keep occurring in places where civilians are banned from having guns ?
Shootings are rare in prisons and airports where most people are banned from having guns. US is the mass shooting capital of the world because of widespread access to guns. According to wikipedia, nearly all studies show a link between high gun ownership and high gun-related homicide or suicide rates in states and countries.
No scientific consensus on whether violent games or media cause gun violence. Trump's attempt to deflect blame from his inflammatory rhetoric is based on insufficent research. The same games or films are sold worldwide. However gun violence is more common in the US. Fewer gun homicides in countries that spend more on games per capita. Furthermore, Trump falsely claims to be doing more on gun control than past administrations. However Obama made dozens of executive orders.

"Why do the shootings keep occurring in places where civilians are banned from having guns ?"
occurring in places = area where citizens were not prohibited from carrying a gun..gun free-zones.
The Crime Prevention Research Center, reports that soft target places (areas where guns are prohibited) have been the target of more than 94% of all mass shootings.
Speaking of places where civilians are banned from having guns..
it was present Democrat candidate Joe Biden, who introduced the Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) to the U.S. Senate in 1990....

So you prefer everyone carrying? Is that your position?
Of course soft targets are preferable to walking into a gun show or a police station.
An Ohio Republican Congresswoman blames the mass shootings on trans gender & gay marriage & this crazy farker is running for Congress.
Candace Keller is her name.

Politicians refer to "red flags" after every mass shooting. How many red flags had to be raised with this dude in Ohio?
He was thrown out of high school for keeping a "kill list" & said he wanted to slit a female classmate's throat.
That's enough warning signs for me. Yet he was able to own a rifle holding 100 rounds.
Where were the school, local police & mental health experts when this kid was spewing these thoughts? How about his parents when he got kicked out of school? What about extended family members....aunts, uncles, cousins or grandparents?
Other countries have lousy parents but it doesn't result in mass shootings of this nature.
WTF?

Meanwhile 55 people were shot in Chicago this weekend. 7 were killed. The homicide clearance rate in Chicago so far this year is 9.1%. People are in fear of speaking up because the gangs act more swiftly than the police. The PEOPLE need to take back their communities.
That's a whole lot of people still running around the city with guns.

Nonsense to suggest solution to gun violence is more guns. The book "More guns less crime" by Lotts has been discredited by National research council. US has a gun violence crisis despite over 390 million guns held by Americans. If more guns and fewer gun laws made US safer, US would be the safest country in the world. Instead according to American journal of medicine, US gun homicide rate is 25 times higher than in other countries. US gun suicide rate is 8 times higher.

Where the fark is Bill Barr? You couldn't shut him up after the Mueller probe but now he's silent while mass murders are taking place. What's the reluctance about sniffing out these accidents waiting to happen? Is he worried about upsetting somebody?
Barr Update:
He's working on the DOJ helping Trump prevent Congress from getting their hands on his taxes. Don't forget that when looking for bank funding, he added 10 stories to Trump Tower to improve his chances of receiving the funding.
This is going to get very interesting.
