The Justice Department is reviewing possible evidence of a secret scheme to obtain a presidential pardon in exchange for a "substantial political contribution," according to federal court records made public Tuesday.

The heavily redacted records, unsealed by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, the chief judge in the D.C. district, did not identify possible suspects in the case but indicated that unnamed "senior White House officials" were the targets of the alleged plot.

According to the 20-page filing, authorities are investigating an attempt to secure a pardon or a sentence reduction.

What a clever way to raise campaign contributions....

first reported that Giuliani was discussing a pardon with the President and on discussions about preemptive pardons for Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

Giuliani denied discussing a preemptive pardon with the President, telling CNN that The "(New York) Times is completely wrong." He further denied that he has talked to anyone at the White House about a pardon for himself.

It's not clear what potential criminal exposure Giuliani or other associates are attempting to preempt. But the first source familiar with the discussions went on to cite what friends and allies of the President see as hostility from the incoming Biden administration toward Trump associates.

"Don't trust the Dems," the source said, describing the pardons being sought as "blanket" protection from future prosecution.

Nine individuals in Trump's orbit, including his former national security adviser Michael Flynn and longtime friend Roger Stone

Rudy's relationship with Lev Parnas appears real questionable IMO.

When they redacted the document, they failed to redact an apostrophe leading online detectives & grammar experts to assume the person's name ended in an "s."

The person is currently in prison and it appears they have an advocate on the outside trying to make things happen.

Personally I'm not surprised by any of this or anything else hat comes to light when this POS is gone from the WH.

Ramble is a completely ok with Trump and his bribe for pardon schemes, yet these Trumpers love to cry election fraud with no actual proof of anything.

Wrong. Since my last visit to rehab, I have been on my best behavior.

    Unlike you.

Wrong. Since my last visit to rehab, I have been on my best behavior.

    Unlike you.

I didn't even insult you, just stated a fact. You are too sensitive.

The fact is you don't care about Trump's lawbreaking, which is quite obvious, and instead focus on pushing fake conspiracy theories about election fraud, which do not exist on a large scale.

You just hate being called out. Being called out hardly qualifies for crying to the mods to protect you.

NY attorney general Letitia James has 67 indictments on Trump ready to be unsealed on January 21st.

Trump can pardon federal crimes state crimes are entirely different matter. A pass for his family for current or past untried matters is a new concept that end in the supreme court.

Hard to see how the court will deal with this.

It has long standing presidency that you can not be your own Judge in law.

Just thought of another possible pardon...

    Ghislaine Maxwell

Destroying her hidden secrets will make plenty of wealthy men very happy & most likely they are willing to pay for it.

    Midnight,

I was actually thinking about this months ago. I have a feeling she is getting pardoned very soon. I think the clock ran out on a mysterious death. Pardon is the next best thing to keep her quiet. peace_5

The US justice department is looking into claims that lobbyists have tried to use bribes to secure a presidential pardon, unsealed court papers show.

They say that in August investigators began investigating a "secret lobbying scheme" possibly involving attempts to contact White House officials.

The redacted filings do not give any names, but the justice department says no government official is being probed.

In a tweet, President Trump referred to the investigation as "fake news

Could a pardon of a related party be challenged in court?

I think a pardon can be 1) thought of wrongful conviction etc 2) compassion towards elderly prisoner and 3) OTHER

If trump doesn't go to NYC and NY state, can the state and city authorities take effective action against DJT? I.e. can they arrest him in Florida?

Can a convicted felon hold public office?

Trump's pardons of allies to coverup crimes could backfire if he is prosecuted.  Courts can force pardoned individuals to testify when they lose protection against self incrimination under 5th amendment.  For examples, Flynn, Stone and Manafort.

It's the legal challenge in New York securities fraud got him. In this scheme he over valued properties for shell companies to go bankrupt and settle loans pennies on the dollar in junk bonds.
