Well, 90% of Republicans vote for a Republican in a general election so I don't think that the approval rating matters for them. They're always going to vote that way. I believe that independents are much more important. I'm not sure where his approval rating is for them right now, but he can't win the presidency again without enough support from them. There are also variables that are unaccountable for, such as the Democratic nominee, the shape of the economy and the result of his trade war with China. Trump was just complaining about a strong dollar again. I only know because MarketWatch mentioned it on Sunday. I wouldn't call it a win if he gets China to reduce the trade deficit, but I know that he needs to do it if he wants a weaker dollar for the long term. We just don't export enough right now for it to be a viable strategy. Of course, I thought that it was about IP theft and tariffs on products that weren't acceptable. I already know Republicans will pretend that whatever Trump (technically his subordinates' work) negotiates for a deal is a victory and is something that no other president could have accomplished. I'll sigh, shake my head and move on.
