As non-partisan independent, I know it seems I am anti-democrat here but I dont think that is a fair comparison...

how they think might be similar in broad strokes, but how they go about getting things done is different...

I would be interested to see if there is any real debate to your points however other than trying to engage in the high school debate tactic of trying to shift the discussion away from the unwinable discussion and trying to bring up the other side instead...

Im sure no one will post a logical debate with you that doesn't involve that tactic...  at least Im not sure who on this site is capable

I don't think a public institution should promote religion but I have no problem if an individual wants to read the Bible or Koran or other religious texts in school or at work. The separation of church and state should protect the church, not the state. I define the church as an individual's right to practice, or not practice, a religion. When "Church" is defined in "Church and State" it doesn't mean, as Kelly Bundy would say, "That building with the big "T" on it. Remember, the beginning of the First Amendment reads "...Congress shall pass no laws..."

Believe religious doctrine should be taught in school

Oppose multiculturalism

What exactly is multiculturalism? Do you define it as having open borders? I don't. I think if anyone wants to become a citizen of the United States they should do it legally, which means learning our country's history and laws, speaking English, and getting to the back of the line behind the people who are following the rules to become a citizen. I have no problem with people being proud of their family heritage. I'm proud of my Italian heritage. I'm third generation Italian American. However, my family wasn't rooting for Italy during WW2.

Consider homosexuality as evil

There are a lot of religious people, especially in the south, that do think that way. I don't. Homosexuality isn't my cup of tea but most Republicans don't want to ban it. I can't stand mayonaise but if people want to put that disgusting sh!t on their sandwiches that's their choice.

Not sure what you are saying?  You are picking a few things that you think Republicans and Isis agree on?  Can't you pick any group and do this by being extreme about it?

Name one Republican who says homosexuals are evil. Maybe don't agree with it or think it is wrong. But I have never heard Republicans  call them evil??

Separation of church and state? Name the Republican that wants a church-ruled state?  Again, this is extreme just because some don't mind a prayer before the assembly begins or the posting of the 10 commandments. This is because nonRepublicans just want to deny the fact that it is a Christian-based government.

What Republican thinks religious doctrine should be taught in school?  Some just want creation to be presented if the theory of evolution is going to be presented as fact is all. No one I know wants doctrine taught in school?  That is what churches and homes are for.

No clue if Isis is pro-abortion. They are from 15th century, so that idea maybe hasn't reached them yet. But I give you that most Republicans are anti-abortion. Hard to argue with the logic if you admit that there is life inside the womb. But don't see the Isis link.

I would be interested to know what you think you mean when you say multiculturalism. If it means not discriminating and treating all people equal and fair, then I don't know anyone that is against that. If it is forcing an agenda or giving preferential treatment to any class of folks just because they are in that class, then I understand not being for that always. Didn't know Isis cared one way or the other---thought their whole thing was all in or not on religion.

Not sure Isis cares about the death penalty or not.  They simply want death for all but their kind. They could care less about using it as a tool for criminals. Again, these are very broad strokes. For example, I consider myself very much on the Right and am anti-death penalty.

So, again you are being extreme and generalizing very broadly.

However, if your point was to just call Republicans some Isis-type group.  That seems a little harsh and mean and certainly not a good way to do it. No Republicans that I know of are calling for mass destruction of all people that don't agree with them 100%. Just not clear if this was a good title when we are at war with this group.  But to each his own.

With all due respect, I don't think you or anyone should paint them all with the same brush. Besides, different persons are going to have different views on any of single issue so maybe a thread with a single issue(abortion, death penalty...etc) will better suited for discussion.

Looks like another excellent response dl.  Seems pretty logical to me.  Looks like detox looking the fool once again.  You better help him out here with some non-partisan independent talking points.

While I am disagreeing with Detox in his generalization, lets don't pretend there aren't more than a few GOPs that....

In North Carolina, a bill was introduced by Republican lawmakers to make Christianity a State Religion. The bills says First Amendment only applies to federal government and does not stop state governments.......to defy the Constitution. There is an existing state constitution in N.C that disqualifies those who do not believe in God from public office. Thankfully, it's not enforceable due to the SC but it sure tells a different story than some might want to tell.

As far as calling homosexuals are evil, it's really not that hard to find.

Look the point is there are crazy people in all walks of life.  To call one large group of people this or that just shows how simple minded some people are.  I could max out the number of characters on this post with just stuff from Nancy Pelosi alone.  PETA anyone???

Since we got on the topic of homosexuals lets run with that.  Most level headed people do not think that they are evil.  I for instance don't agree with the lifestyle but it's not my choice to make. Because I don't agree with the lifestyle does that mean I think they are evil?  Nope, sure doesn't.

When detox compares Republicans to ISIS that sounds like something you would hear from a far left wacko.  No different than when someone compares Obama to Hitler.  It's over the top and just plain stupid.  Level headed people usually win out.

I don't align myself with either party.  I voted for a democrat for Governor and a republican for senator in my state.  Both won as well as the level headed people that voted for them.

So stop with the sweeping generalizations and the people you engage in debate might take you more seriously.  Until then, I have no problem sinking to your level.  I can play wherever you decide to set the bar.

There are a lot of religious people, especially in the south, that do think that way. I don't. Homosexuality isn't my cup of tea but most Republicans don't want to ban it. I can't stand mayonaise but if people want to put that disgusting sh!t on their sandwiches that's their choice.

I dont like Kraft Mayo but I do enjoy Hellmans....does that mean I might be a closet happy?...hmmmmm but in all seriousness I do agree with your post .....

the far left...the far right.....  why is it they make up the majority.....why do we let them?

BFF, I agree and that's why I said what I said in post#7(to detox) and #10.

On the other hand, what's the difference between what Detox said with someone suggesting there aren't any bigots or religous zelots in the Republican Party?

I can play wherever you decide to set the bar.

by the way, you sound like one of the ignorant, redneck, religious quacks we are referring to when you call homosexuality a "lifestyle"

There are but they don't speak for the majority.  Just like the environmental zelots don't speak for the majority in the Democrat party.  It's a good thing neither does.

Thanks for proving my point dirt.  You took that one right out of the "far left liberal playbook".  You can't debate my points so just attack me.  Sorry I wasn't PC enough for you.

Ignorant?????     Not now that I have stopped watching MSNBC  My choice.

Redneck?????       Don't care for NASCAR, don't watch Duck Dynasty and have never owned a confederate flag.  My choice

Religious quack ?????   I don't belong to any organized religion.  My choice

Why do I feel like I am debating with a teenager?

I would be interested to see if there is any real debate to your points however other than trying to engage in the high school debate tactic of trying to shift the discussion away from the unwinable discussion and trying to bring up the other side instead...

Im sure no one will post a logical debate with you that doesn't involve that tactic...  at least Im not sure who on this site is capable

B+ for correcting him on the issue.

D- for being 100% independent.*

* If he were a conservative making this type of thread you would have put him on blast and not tipped toed around going about it.

I have made my points.  You have no counterpoint.  All you have done is resorted to name calling.  Game over.  Next topic.

i see where you called homosexuality a "lifestyle" but i must have missed where you "made your point", i.e. explained why you think it is a lifestyle.  if you do want to debate that, can you show me where you "made that point" or if you haven't, why you call it that?
