Researching the lineage of Colin Powell Susan Rice and Kamela Harris. It seems that their ancestors can be traced to Jamaica.

In 1912, her mother’s family immigrated from Jamaica to Portland, Maine with the hopes of maximizing educational opportunities for their five children. While her mother ultimately attended Radcliffe College — the all-female coordinated college affiliated with Harvard before it began accepting women — she was denied scholarship money on account of her race.. Colin Powell is as son of Jamaican immigrants. And Kamela Harris father immigrated from Jamaica as well. Kamela father and prices mother both worked education higher learning. Colin Powell is considered one of the greatest strategic minds in modern military. All have similiar stories dealing with race contement and being Black folks in America. All excelled in their fields . 

The will of James Powell, planter of St David, was proved in Jamaica, 25/03/1773. He bequeathed a mourning ring to Margary Hart, a "free sambo". To a black enslaved person named Jenny, his horse, £23 14s Jamaican currency. Jenny's "mulatto" children named James Rice, John Rice and Mary Rice where residuary legatees after other bequests.

According to Kamala Harris's father, Stanford University economics professor Donald Harris...The ancestors of Sen. Kamala Harris owned slaves....

Donald Harris, a Stanford University economics professor, revealed in 2018 that his grandmother was a descendant of Hamilton Brown, the namesake of Brown’s Town in northern Jamaica.

“My roots go back, within my lifetime, to my paternal grandmother Miss Chrishy (née Christiana Brown, descendant of Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town),” he wrote in a post for Jamaica Global.

So her great, great, great grandfather put a baby in one of his slaves. Pretty commonplace back then. What does it have to do with anything? If one of Sally Hemmings descendants ran for office, would we be all, "Well, you know your great, great, great, great grandpappy was a slave owner."

Kamala Harris's father is the one who revealed that the ancestors of Sen. Kamala Harris owned slaves....where as with Sally Hemmings we don't know,, if her children were fathered by slave owners..

Sally Hemmings was a slave owned by Thomas Jefferson. Evidence shows he fathered her children. There are modern day black descendants of Thomas Jefferson who trace their lineage back to this most likely non-consensual relationship between a white owner and one of their slaves. There are many modern African-Americans with a drop of "Massa's" blood in them. Is this some kind of indictment on them? Is it an indictment of Kamala Harris? That an Irishman came to Jamaica, built a plantation on backs of slaves, then subsequently raped those slaves? Why do you think there are so many light-skinned black folks? Healthy, consensual relationships?

I did doubt the mixing of slave owners and slave women ..only that Kalama's father is the one who is saying that the ancestors of Sen. Kamala Harris owned slaves.....

 DNA testing has found her children are in fact related to the Jefferson bloodline, but not necessarily to Thomas Jefferson himself, since DNA requires a male heir to prove ancestry, of which Jefferson had none. From Jefferson’s brothers to his nephews and cousins, it is possible that anyone from that time could have fathered Hemings’ children...non-slave owners could have gotten into the hen house..

Where there's smoke, there's fire. Did he have brothers living on his plantation? Nephews? Either way, the point is that many African-Americans are descended from slave owners because of a slave owner raping one of his slaves. If this something to throw in someones face? Does it discredit their black experience or does it fortify.

White privilege: When you hear someone's ancestor was a slave owner and you think that means they descend from some "in the eyes of God" relationship. Like their great, great, great grandpapa was some slave owner who married their great, great great grandmama, and from that holy union came this child. And you use this to discredit that descendants blackness, or atleast, their relationship to the black experience in the Americas. You don't immediately think, "Well duh, slave masters raped slaves and had mulatto children all of the time." And guess what? Most of those mulattos were still slaves. There's a ton of privileged white people on the internet who assume hearing that Kamala Harris is descended from a slave owner is the same as hearing that they themselves are descended from slave owners.

If this something to throw in someones face?  No!

Does it discredit their black experience or does it fortify...If those are the choices ,,I would say it fortifies it.

Again,it is Kamala Harris's father,,citing a genealogical report written by him and put out into the public,that Sen. Kamala Harris ancestors owned slaves...,any issue with this ,,should be directed toward him...

I have no issue with it. I'm simply curious as to what statement one who points this out is trying to make. I'm not clear as yo what your motivations are. And being my brother from another mother, I owe you the respect of not assuming. However i'm very clear of the motivation of many i've seen point this out online.

Yes in a dark chapter of Jamaican history British freed Africans and started enslaving Irish citizens. And some former slaves became slavers.... 

Outlawed Irish slaves by 1860.  

Jamaica's landowners were of Irish extraction and several, such as Teague Mackmarroe (Tadhg MacMorrough), who owned Irish indentured servants, attained the rank of "middling planter."

Later, in the mid-eighteenth century, Presbyterian colonial settlers who were fleeing Ireland arrived in the Caribbean. Scottish Gaelic speaking highlanders exiled after the Jacobite rebellions also came to the island in the 18th century.

In 1731, governor of Jamaica Robert Hunter said that the "servants and people of lower rank on the island chiefly consist of Irish Papists" who he said had "been pouring in upon us in such sholes as of late years". In the mid-18th century, Irish native names such as O'Hara and O'Connor were prominent, as well as Old English families like Talbot and Martin. Names present in 1837, recorded during the compensation hearings, include Walsh, O'Meally, O'Sullivan, Burke, Hennessy, Boyle, Tierney, Geoghagan, Dillon

Where owning Africans ceased on the island by 1833 owning Irish indentured servants became common as a practice of buying debt at poor houses and owning the individual while releasing their children to apprenticeships. And Freeman status. 

Hence an entire mallatto class of servants began in Jamaica. Which by the end of century began migrating to new York maine Boston and northern states with Irish names and jamician birth. 

They assimilated into northern cities. Susan rice mother was born in Portland maine. She was class valedictorian of Portland high school attended Radcliff Harvard wasn't accepting women and it was its women's auxiliary campus. 

This seems to be a common story when the generation of immigrants describe my roots run deep in Jamaica.
