I hate to say it but I see no honor in military service nowadays. The military is just a corporate and Zionist shill.
The constant bombardment about "protecting you're freedoms" is laughable. It is quite the opposite. The military is engaged in perpetuating the unwinnable war on terrorism among other things.
Too many people for mandatory service.

Its always interesting to me how certain groups of people are for more rights and freedoms along with less government control... while other groups are for less rights and freedoms along with wanting government to dictate how they live
Well put me in that first group. I think govt has gotten too big and has invaded our rights and freedoms at every turn. Our laws in this country are beyond mind boggling. Our foreign policy is even worse. I absolutely respect and appreciate anyone that has served in the military, they deserve our thanks. I could never serve in the military however for a few reasons. One is I don't like being told what to do, whether that is right or wrong, just the truth. More importantly I never served because I was not willing to sacrifice my life for the whim of whatever nut job was in the White House over what they believed was necessary military action. That would have been Reagan when I graduated HS in 1982. If it was a battle on US soil defending this country, that would have been different.
My dad was in Korea and told me what that was like. His advice to me was to serve if I wanted to but he hoped I wouldn't ever have to see combat. He Wanted me to use my brains and make a good life for myself. Mission accomplished dad!

Put me in the first group also...
based on 21st century history and the Iraq war, I agree with you 100%...
and I also respect anyone that made the choice to serve in the military... I think this factor of choice is what makes our military so strong...
It is interesting to me how certain political ideologies in the 20th century believed in usa citizens having a choice to serve in the military while others believed in a dictatorship that stripped its citizens of the right to make a choice...
but some people seem to like a dictatorship and dont like rights and choices

If we didn't stick our nose into everyone else's business we wouldn't need to have this discussion. We could implement mandatory apprenticeships for people so they learn a life skill instead of teaching them how to be a soldier. Just a thought
Here's a thought. How would YOU have responded to the bombing of the Twin Towers ? NOTHING ? Or send your brother after the terrorists ?

It's not a blanket statement Don so relax Francis; you're gonna give yourself a heart attack. The topic of the thread was if the US should have mandatory military service......not what would you do after 9-11 so stay on topic. You are free to create your own thread with your question.
What part of our foreign policy do you

I have been through numerous NBC classes. (Nuclear Biological and Chemical). I even taught basic NBC to new recruits. I have been through simulations, and had training to be proficient in the neutralization of NBC weapons.
I can comprehend the reality of chemical weapons.
If you bomb a chemical weapons storage facility you will kill more people than the initial attacks. That is a fact.
It is also a fact that you need to secure a country in order to manually (properly) disable chemical weapons.
You do not comprehend the level of commitment that it would take for the united states to do this alone.
It would be like Iraq X10 adding in the possibility of a real army comprised of Russians and Iranians either acting in open warfare against us, and our homeland, or at the very least using asymmetrical warfare to neutralize us any way that they can.
There are 3 options here.
1. WWIII
2. Convince the UN to do something
3. Nothing.... Let the Jihadis and the Dictatorial regime kill themselves and attempt to deliver aid to refuges.
