Don, I just want to know the constitutionality of liquidating a person's estate and confiscating it at gunpoint, after you dole out a bit to the widow and kids.
Maybe you could help me out, I am obviously not as smart as you.
Just look how skewed the income distribution is in the United States. Wealth distribution is even more highly skewed, with 1% of the population controlling 40-50% of the nation's wealth.
It's astounding and it's wrong.
I'm not advocating communism here. I think meritocracy is a great thing. I also believe that capitalism, in one form or another, is here to stay.
But does the skew need to be so extreme? Can't we spread the wealth out a little while still preserving a system that rewards hard work, skill, and dedication? Does Bill Gates really have 50 million times more merit than one of his software engineers?

That says it all . One cannot have an in depth conversation with you, your mind cannot process too much.
Good one Don, If I don't understand someone's point I will say so to get a better understanding of their position before I comment. Of coursed my beliefs and thoughts tend to be a little more nuanced than, "republicans bad...... Democrats good". IT would make it a lot easier if I had a script to go off like you do.

I get it. The United States is the top 1% worldwide in wealth. Our leaders have tried to narrow that gap by outsourcing, and sending our prosperity elsewhere. IF you make over 35,000 a year you are in the top 1% of income earners worldwide. Let that sink in. Should we devalue our way of life in this country and even the gap?
I don't really have answer, it is just kind of something to think about as you advocate devaluing property rights.
Property rights are a large part of what makes this country great. The ability to go out and make a fortune and pass it on to you heirs. It is the basis of the American dream. Not everyone will make it, and that is really sad, but (for me) the dream of that keeps me getting up every morning to grow my business and work my a$$ off.
I think that foreign tax havens are a sham, and they are slowly being shut down. IF you follow what is happening in Ireland and other parts of the EU, they are actually starting to want to be cut in to giant offshore interests like APPLE. I think that we need to revise our tax system to be fair and firm, so that there is no benefit to outsourcing, or hiding money overseas. The way to absolutely NOT do that is through coerrcion, regulation, and confiscation.
Economic prosperity follows the Carrot, not the stick.

The first correction needed is that the government goes after income more than it goes after wealth. For example, you can live in a $8 million mansion and get Universal Healthcare subsidies if you make less than 94,000 a year with a family of four.

All I know is that whenever (in the history of the income tax) something is proposed to screw the rich, it always falls on the backs of the middle class.
Just look at the income tax itself. It was never designed to be 23% of the income of lower middle class people.
I am all for ending subsidies to the rich, closing loopholes, ending incentives for outsourcing etc.
I think we do it better with a flat tax for everyone, as opposed to the progressive tax that has been easy to obfuscate in the rich's favor.

no-one in this country really understands the definition of socialism, its merely a term banded about to insult the left
This is tired elitist meme.
Yes, we understand socialism. We have many socialist policies already in our country, and we are allies with a number of socialist countries.
Stop stroking your ego and pretending that you are the keeper of some rare secret about socialism. It is all around us, and has been for quite some time.
Stop regurgitating memes that your leaders doll out to you.
It is embarrassing.
What would make you think that people do not understand Socialism? Did you even think about your statement? Every child in social studies learns about it in 7th and 8th grades. Most college campuses tout it in European history, Post WWII history etc.

Democrats like 100% of the advanced nations of this world view the economy as needing to be a hybrid economy where economic needs like expenditure for military, highways, senior health care, pension(social security) are and should be the realm of the government and hence a form of socialism. For ex the reason health care should be handled by the government is because private enterprise has never in the entire history of the country had the balls to take care of this need. Instead they have acted like robber barons with health care for the healthy and let the old and sick die in the gutter. This is only done today in the third world countries which the republicans seem to want to provide to those who aren't wealthy enough to buy everything including their politicians

Medical industry is still mostly owned by private sector. Capitalism (not socialism) is among reasons why United States still has the most inefficient and unaffordable healthcare system in the world as evident in highest percentage of GDP spend on healthcare.

Economists have studied a flat tax and pretty much always come back with the same conclusion that it's regressive to the poor. Even if you believe that say someone earning $25,000 should be able to absorb the $2,500 hit he or she would receive under Cruz's plan (at least Trump would exempt people from paying taxes if they earn $25,000 or less), the main problem with a flat tax of that nature is that it doesn't raise enough revenue to pay for the current federal budget.
You can't drastically reduce the tax rate and magically see more income at first. It'd create a massive shortfall based on simple math and spending in a lot of areas would have to be cut, including the military. I'm not a fan of Trump but his tax plan is better than Cruz's plan.

The problem with our current tax situation is that many of our citizens that don't pay in to the pot receive tax returns. We also need to close loopholes.
If we quit giving out 5,000$ refunds to people that dont pay into the system, and close the loopholes we should be good no?

a concept brought out under LBJ was to give workers with families a reward of extra 20 a week this implemented was the eic that gave a workers family benefit of 5,000 a hundred a week and allowed a extra for an entitlement to go to Disney for Feb vacation
it made a law to give credit above any owed to purchase vehical.
this economy isnt pushed by trickle down because the elite live as poor as popper and wont relinquish a dime this is pushed by the just above poverty line their they spend to keep this iceberg too top heavy the people making between 20-50 k makes our economic engine.
the government has realized this and stated stimulus to engage this exact demographic.
sorry i have a brain because any gate buffet or cary wont contribute more than property tax for schools by mandation its the johnsons and keeping up with them that pushes the economic engine in america to number 1

My answer.....If all the billionaires left their fortune to their children eventually we would wind up with 4 Kings, it may take 500 years but that's what would happen.
Here's a quote from Warren Buffet himself to the Gates foundation.
"I want to give my kids just enough so that they would feel that they could do anything, but not so much that they would feel like doing nothing."
Inheritance taxes solve that problem, but it's the greedy and selfish ones that want it all,.. and assault weapons because they think every wants their wealth.
It's the decest's money, he should be able to pass it on to who he wishes. It's money he's earned or someone before him has. Passed down or not unless they won the lottery someone earned that money. The government has no claim to it.

Why should the poor get tax breaks. Get off your a$$ and work. In college I got up every morning while most of my friends stayed home and drank or smoke all day and ended up dropping out. Now I make a good salary while they don't. Why should I basically be giving my tax money to people who had choices to earn their own. I understand their are plenty of people in horrible situations that couldn't help that they're poor. But the majority is just lazy individuals who want handouts. It's like Clinton saying education will be free. Nothings free. That means the rich are going to be paying for it and there's only so much they'll end up paying and it'll fall on the middle class. Then these kids who got free education will graduate get good jobs and end up being taxed for the next generations education. So it's not free but younger people will hear free education and automatically assume it's free
