“Well, I think for sure it will fuel inflation. It’s interesting, almost 60% of the outstanding debt is graduate school debt. People who have gone to law school, master’s programs, PhD programs, medical school. And so it would just be odd to require a waitress, truck driver or plumber to pay the student debt that was incurred by somebody to get a PhD in Zombie Studies or just something that is really not that pertinent. So having tax payers foot the bill, I think, is a bad idea. What I would be potentially open to doing for student debt is to make the universities responsible for this. Because they facilitate these students taking out obnoxious amounts of debt. And they benefit if a student takes 6 years to get a bachelors degree. And yet they have no sense of responsibility for producing somebody that is capable of being productive in society. So if we want to talk about relief in that regard, we’ve got to protect the taxpayers, but I would absolutely be interested in looking into how the universities could be responsible. Because quite frankly, I think they’ve really driven a lot of the problems we have seen coming out of higher education, in terms of debt, and in terms of really losing our moorings about what’s the purpose of higher education.”

Give them a tax break for their payments made. Get a job (911 dispatchers are needed almost everywhere), pay on your loan, get a tax break on what you pay.
Fair enough.

Well said!

DeSantis gets it. The GOP can’t simply deny there is a problem. What they must do is offer solutions that penalize the right ppl and benefit people really in need.

NEW — Harris decided against cutting a video with Biden on the student debt cancellation extension, concerned about being tied long term to a policy that won’t be as progressive/forgiving as she wants it to be.
Student debt cancellation isn’t really a progressive policy at all if working class Americans are expected to fund it. It’s another massive upward wealth transfer. The only way it would be truly fair is if universities themselves had to fund it, alongside reforms to the system.

Bravo and well stated...DeSantis should be the nominee as Trump has proven to be deficient and lacks judgment. How can you fire Comey and hire Wray? After being burned by AG Sessions, how can you hire a Barr and the list goes on and on.
How could Trump say that he was told 'to stay out of the actions of his own AG and dept. of justice? John Kennedy hired his own brother as his attorney general for God's sakes...gee, I wonder if he was partisan or in any way close to the JFK narrative? His brother ran is political campaigns. Robert Kennedy had a law degree but never tried one case in his entire life prior to being named attorney general.
For me Trump is controlled opposition and therefore compromised...and he is almost 80...DeSantis might be able to save the country from self destruction.

Disturbing that the most extremist judges could be chosen by GOP plaintiffs to potentially block popular government policies through unrestrained use of injunctions affecting 50 states. For examples, student debt relief, vaccination and abortion pills benefiting millions of people. Unelected and unaccountable judges aren't supposed to legislate policies on behalf of republicans unable to win national elections. They shouldn't be able to block federal policies without good reasons. Previously, judge Gorsuch of supreme court has introduced legislation reform to bar the ability of activist judges to issue nationwide injunctions of federal policies. Higher courts are better qualified to handle such cases.

Thanks to Republicans, welders, plumbers, laborers, & other In New Jersey (black, white, Hispanic, etc.) will be forced to pay higher taxes than billionaires and corporate executives.
Why does the Republican Party hate working people so much?

When my time to go to college came, I wanted to go to school in New Jersey, The cost at that school was about $27k a year. The local state school was about $8k a year. My father made about $50k a year “ my mom was a home maker God bless her” so to the local state school I went. I could pay off my loans in an acceptable time. The point is many of these kids could go to much cheaper schools if they wanted to, but have choosen to have a better “College Experience ™.”
The second error here is that students are studying the wrong thing. Collge is an investement. Invest wisely. If you really don’t think that a Master’s in English Literature from that expensive private school in the city is going to make you a good living, then don’t invest in that degree. It’s not rocket science to project what degree will give one what living.
