This really happened. Bros are mad about gyms being closed. I know I am.

Yes, a republican REP really did welcome armed and violent protestors into the state capitol.

Yes, covid restrictions to protect the public health have a negative side-effect.

And yes, donald trump and his accomplices are responsible for this.

Gyms in, just for example, Australia and New Zealand have been open - under strict cleaning protocols and guidelines, but still OPEN nonetheless - since last spring.   This could have been done here too if trump had done his job to protect the American people responsibly rather than his obvious tactic of "just let nature takes its course"

Frightening, but probable.

The "anger" seems to primarily arise from 4 distinct sources all of which have trump's fingerprints all over them:

- the wholly unnecessary DEPTH of the pandemic inside this country (causing unprcedented and UNFORGIVABLE deaths, as well as severe economic pain)

- bigotted divisions STOKED repeatedly by trump and his accomplices in the Reich (this includes black vs white; blue vs red)

- a new culture of unchecked LYING, falsehoods, and deliberate misrepresentations (even seen frequently on this forum solely by rightwing adolf supporters) - particularly about the media

- Denialism of actual FACTS. Covid denialism; climate change denialism; media denialism; ELECTION results denialism

All of this, and more, leads to and fuels UNPRECEDENTED anger today, never seen before to these depths!

Gyms were open here too with strict protocols. And doing well. Nobody is getting covid from the gym but the governor is clueless and they are the low hanging fruit.

when Brown introduced a framework of varying restrictions on business and social activities to

 6 people to a gym. That may be fine for a little yoga studio but is a joke to actual gyms and most can't afford to open for so few customers. I think we're gonna go and spend a week in Tillamook county, a low risk county out on the coast, and i'm going to work out twice a day.

It may well have been much better than that if not for trump's deliberate negligence.

But like you point out, there are other counties which don't have the same harsh level because they are not in "high risk" areas.

Very familiar with Portland.

Mayor Bowser warned of impeding violence for weeks.  She requested national guard help from pentagon on December 31.  But the capital police chief turned down January 5 offer.  Also FBI offer of help rejected.  Capital police union blamed their chief who blamed congress security officials rejecting requests to call in national guard.  So far, Sund, Irving and Steger have resigned.  Apparently, peaceful black lives matter protesters are feared more than far right extremists.

Oh there's no doubt members of Congress helped but I believe they've tried covering their tracks.  I saw a Republican customer yesterday who I won't see for 2 or 3 months now.  He's going to Florida to vacation and for a couple of fishing trips.  He also got his first shot for the vaccine.  He does some work for a rich retirement community and I believe they hooked him up.  He was telling me that Antifa really organized the Capitol event.  He didn't talk about a rigged election so I'll give him that but most Republicans are following stories that are completely made up.  This is a huge problem since members of Congress are going to be lifelong Republicans (for the most part) who only read conservative sources.  They definitely think that Democrats fixed the election and the results of it.  Yes, some Republicans know it's all bullshit and Democrats really won.  Other Republicans have been tricked.  They don't understand it was actually legitimate.  The propaganda they spread about being the silent majority was never true.  Everyone knows I said that on here before the election.  The results shouldn't have surprised anyone.  Trump is destroying the Republican Party.  I give my friend credit.  He was right and it's actually worse than I thought it could be.
