This breaks it down on a somewhat basic level and has many additional links and studies if you want to delve into it.
Being open-minded, and willing to change my views upon NEW and CREDIBLE
information (things can change right?!) I followed your link and read the article.
A few key points for our learned forum colleagues to consider:
1/ The link was dated June 11, 2020.
2/ The alleged study was actually posted in APRIL (when widespread knowledge
and supportive studies of efficacy of mask-wearing was NOT readily available)
3/ The note at the bottom of that article reads:
PHd Denis G. Rancourt is a researcher at the Ontario Civil Liberties Association (OCLA.ca)
and is formerly a tenured professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada. This paper
was originally published at Rancourt's account on ResearchGate.net. in April 2020.
As of June 5, 2020, this paper was REMOVED from his profile by its administrators
at Researchgate.net/profile/D_Rancourt. (He was outraged that he was censured)
4/ Since April when he wrote that, the allegation that mask-wearing is not effective
has been refuted and debunked. I am not going to list all the articles and data.
I posted this article dated JULY 2020 as shown

Wearing a mask cuts own risk of novel coronavirus
by 65 percent, experts say
A range of new research now suggests that masks
also protect the wearer
Health experts have stressed the importance of wearing a mask
to limit the possibility of infecting others with COVID-19, but a
range of new research now suggests they also protect the wearer,
according to a report Monday.
“So we don’t know who might spread it,” Blumberg said.
“We do know social distancing reduces the risk of transmitting the
virus by 90 percent, and wearing masks decreases the risk by 65%."
“Everyone should wear a mask,” Blumberg said.
“People who say, ‘I don’t believe masks work,’ are ignoring scientific evidence.
It’s not a belief system. It’s like saying, ‘I don’t believe in gravity.’"
