First child tax credit payments have been sent

Tens of millions of families have been sent the first payment of the
expanded child tax credit, the Internal Revenue Service and the
Treasury Department said Wednesday night.
The beefed-up credit will provide them with extra funds each month
through the end of 2021 along with a tax break next year.

The payments were approved as part of the Democrats' $1.9 trillion
stimulus package that President Joe Biden signed into law in March.

I'm glad that Joe is moving forward to bring Afghan interpreters here who put their lives on the line to help our soldiers.

 Regarding the slogan defund the police, Democrats in Congress have recently secured massive amounts of funding for state and local governments, over Republican objections, with a fair amount of that money specifically intended for local police departments that pandemic-strapped cities couldn’t afford.

The COPS program funding was dramatically reduced by the last administration (formerly the GOP)  & has voted against the funding bill that supports the police. This infrastructure bill is going to get finally approved without support from the right. We have roads & bridges collapsing all across the country & you must certainly see this during your daily travels. 

No bill is ever perfect & there's pork in every bill but we need to move forward. To say Democrats want to defund the police is intellectually dishonest. It's an effective message if said often enough but it is not the case.

If Biden commits our forces - other than the embassy - then I gotta count that against his presidency.

Midnight1 is right.  In 2021 budget proposed under Trump, $156 million for COPS program which is less than in previous years.  In 2022 budget, $388 million under Biden which is more than double.  Moreover, he urges cities to use coronavirus relief funds for police and community services.  Washington post fact check debunks myth that Biden supports defunding the police.

US unemployment claims hits new pandemic low!

WASHINGTON (AP) - The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits
has reached its lowest level since the pandemic struck last year, further evidence that
the U.S. economy and job market are quickly rebounding from the pandemic recession.

Thursday’s report from the Labor Department showed that jobless claims fell
by 26,000 last week to 360,000. The weekly tally, a proxy for layoffs, has fallen
steadily since topping 900,000 in early January (when trump was still in office)

Unemployment is officially 5.9% at the end of June, which is down significantly
from when Biden took office, despite the mess the trump admin left.

The U.S. recovery from the recession is proceeding so quickly that
many forecasters have predicted that the economy could expand
this year by close to 7%

That would be the most robust calendar-year growth since 1984. (37 yrs)
