US inflation heats up to 3% for first time since June!
- CNN
It’s not just eggs! Many commonly purchased goods and services got more expensive in January, driving inflation in the wrong direction and to its highest rate since June of last year!
Consumer prices rose 0.5% from December — the fastest pace since September 2023

Economists were expecting Wednesday’s report to be fairly unexciting
Instead,
the January report came in hot pretty much across the board — an unwelcome surprise at a time when the cost of living continues to weigh on Americans

@Zeus4par
Was there also a drop in the stock market? Looking like trump erased Biden so it is all him now, maybe he quits trying to blame his shit on President Obama and President Biden.

@JEG53
Ya. Looking weak, like the Trump admin.
The Federal Reserve is wanting to see inflation slow, no t rise, before considering further rate cuts, and because of the uptick, all bets are off for the near future at least. The markets are reacting to the bad news.

Too early to pin anything on Trump and the TNC yet, the economy takes time to cycle through changes and impacts. The CPI is a backwards reporting stat, not sure this thread has great value and there are plenty of other blame the republicans places to post this?

True, and good points. But this thread is specifically about rising inflation in the face of promises to the contrary, together with the new threat that continuing rises could actually lead to FED rate HIKES, rather than rate cuts!

With added uncertainty brewing as to how Trump’s heavy-handed tariffs and other policies could affect prices, US stocks dropped Wednesday, with investors concerned that inflation has reversed its recent progress under the Biden admin and could actually lead to HIGHER interest rates in 2025.

@SarasotaSlim
Partisan on either side is a yawner. Trump will not be bringing down inflation any more than Biden did as to creating it. I do not see a single action by the big clown that is putting the screws on inflation, so far it is retaliatory nonsense and scheming project 2025 platform concepts.

I for one hope inflation stays up for a little longer as I'm fully invested in IBonds for the last 3 yrs.and want to buy some more. So I'am with you..and hope the big clown ( who I assume you mean to degrade is Pres.Trump) doesn't do anything to lower inflation...
Remember when people yawn they usually close their eyes ..hard to see things that way..

Humorous sarcastic reply, and yes Trump is a clown and based on his actions he deserves this characterization.
Not that you really are interested in my investment views nor do I care to share them with you but in the case of bonds you are missing the most valuable aspect of the fund, you will make MORE in return than the yield if rates go down. The value of the fund will go up as rates go down and your return will be higher than the fund interest return. If you are in long term bond funds and there is not massive churn, you could easily make 5 years of return in investment from appreciation if rates do drop down.

@wallstreetcappers
True.
Inflation is expected to rise further this year, directly under the regime of the idiots in the Oval. BAD for business for sure, and as we have heard from the vociferous MAGA screams the past two years - it is VERY BAD news for the majority of Americans as well!

@SarasotaSlim
Yeah I will pass on that click bait.
I know bond ETFs and Ive been checking some long term ones out myself for diversification and that is why I said CHURN...being a bond trader you know exactly what I mean. If the holdings do not turn over heavy then the positions will not be lost and the rate of the holdings will not be churned. You can keep hoping for high rates but given you are IN the fund what does it matter, you have locked in the rate and barring churn you will likely not see dramatically higher rates IMO.

Wrong direction. And getting worse!

New tariffs today by trump to bully those who dared to apply tariffs after trump started the whole mess.
WASHINGTON (AP)
The prospect of a dramatic hike on tariffs
could send shockwaves through the world economy,
possibly depressing growth while also causing inflation
to intensify!

[The FELON] has maintained that such tariffs will help
to create domestic factory jobs. But most economists
say they would effectively be a tax increase on U.S.
consumers that would add to inflationary pressures.
