Former President Donald Trump on Sunday praised withdrawing US troops
from Afghanistan.
Though the former President offered his support of President Joe Biden's plans
to bring home American troops, he urged his successor to draw an end to America's
longest war well before the September 11 deadline that Biden set last week.
(NOTE:  It's now set at Aug 31)

Trump said that while leaving Afghanistan is "a wonderful and positive thing to do,"
he had set a May 1 withdrawal deadline.

"First, we can and should get out earlier. Nineteen years is enough,
  in fact, far too much and way too long," Trump said

"I made early withdrawal possible by already pulling much of our
 billions of dollars of equipment out and, more importantly,
 reducing our military presence to less than 2,000 troops
 from the 16,000 level that was there"

(NOTE: thus leaving virtually the entire defense against the Taliban
  to the Afghan military of nearly 300,000 trained troops)

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani told CNN's Fareed Zakaria in an exclusive interview on "GPS" on Sunday that he supports Biden's decision to pull US troops out of the country

Oddly, Trump blames Biden for Afghan withdrawal that he previously brags about.  Trump's security advisor McMaster agrees that Trump would have done essentially the same thing as Biden.  Sanford historian Crews say taliban deal is a blueprint for surrender.  Recently, GOP has deleted web page about taliban deal that Trump is so proud of.

On July 8, Biden discussed the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, swatting back concerns that a Taliban takeover of the country would be "inevitable." The president explicitly said that Americans would not see images reminiscent of the U.S. evacuation from Vietnam at the end of that war in 1975—when photos of helicopters evacuating people from the roof of the U.S. embassy in Saigon were widely circulated in the media.

"The Taliban is not the south—the North Vietnamese army. They're not—they're not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There's going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of a embassy in the—of the United States from Afghanistan.

There was never a question of withdrawal, it is the complete clusterfuck of a job in withdrawing is what is so dumbfounding.... you guys are missing the point completely here as you just want to bitch about partisan this and partisan that.  Blame this and blame that.  

There is absolutely NO accountability from anyone for what will go down in the history books as an epic blunder.

Correct.   Republicans can't rewrite history.   It was their EPIC BLUNDER that started all this, although it is funny how the arsonists are quick to blame the firefighters.

He was in charge of the withdrawal... his epic embarrassing moment...  one Obama official.... China gave Joe the election... Joe gave China Afghanistan...  this guy spent more time on designing form fitting uniforms  for the guys and gals in the service... more time on crr.... more time making sure of gender identity and cross gender transformation than the people fighting and protecting... he cares only for his own pocket, and own narrative... gates was right... Joe has been wrong on EVERY  foreign policy.... this guy  got to go before more innocent people suffer.

Trump's role in Afghanistan debacle is a doozy

Since Trump is so vocal about Biden's failing, we must look at Trump'srole in this tragedy.

And it's a doozy.

First, let's note that the man leading the current Taliban offensive, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar -- the jihadi cleric who may become the next president of Afghanistan or, formally, the Emir of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan -- was being held in Pakistani custody and might still be there were it not for Trump.

In 2018, the Trump team asked Pakistan to free Baradar so he could travel to Doha for talks.

In Trump's eyes, Baradar may have looked a bit like North Korea's Kim Jong Un, the leader he could try to sweet talk and coax, showering him with praise while extracting essentially nothing from him, while drawing attention to himself and his theatrical "boldness".

Well this should not be overlooked --- trump freed a political prisoner from Pakistan, and that same man  is the current leader of the entire Taliban offensive against the Afghans.

Right.  Take Hitler out of prison, negotiate a loser deal,  then set him free.  Nothing bad could come from that, right?!

The man can't even tie his shoes yet alone lead an evacuation.
