It is interesting how when a DEM is in then the blabbing about debt heats up but with the debt king in office there isnt a peep...like it does not exist. It used to be that Repubs were fiscal hawks, now they are lazy fat pigs at the trough and their leader is the fattest of them all.

And when was this thread created?
Why the exact year (2019) the poverty rate was at an all time low, median household income reached it's highest point, unemployment rate lowest since 1969. THE EXACT YEAR!
And yet all this nonsense there's nothing to show for it in 2019, standard of living is worse in 2019, on and on. So I looked.

Another note; it takes two to create deficits, both repubs and dems, and only if the ballot box punishes the debt creators would it change. But not enough intelligence to do so! Instead of looking to take a shot at someone, read the thread and then hide your tail exiting the scene, this was a massive swing and miss.
The point of the thread as it is clearly spelled out is at the time of the creation we were pre-pandemic, ultra low interest rates, the FED still pumping cash into the markets, the fake effects of ZIRP still lingering, no supply chain issues etc.
Now why given that the economy and the general performance of the country for the previous decade did we need to run a T plus deficit? THAT is the point of the thread, why given that there was never a more dovish economic environment than what Trump had for 95% of his presidency, why did he run a T plus deficit? And why did he give a tax holiday for corps that cost so much? Why the need to recklessly spend the way he did and the way congress did when the economy at THAT point was fine?
I dont think the purpose of THIS thread was to say how great Trump is and how low the UE rate was, that had been the case for over a decade, Trump did not move the needle economically, and especially given how spending went bonkers when it was not needed. For someone who seems to have all the answers and solutions to everyone elses flaws, Trump did a horrid job at doing better than all those politicians he bashed and bashes now. If you are going to run your trap then you have to dramatically outperform when you are given the opportunity and he did not do that in the slightest, he golfed and tweeted the most though, I will say that much.

And NO, there was not a Tplus deficit, it didn't hit a trillion in 2019.
And then you say reckless spending when non-discretionary spending was 6.3% of GDP in 2019 when that avg from 1999-2018 was 7.2%. So non-discretionary was lower than avg by 12.5% in 2019.
And saving rates did not decline (false statement when I look at the data) from 2015-19, rather were increasing, but are in the tank now!
And I see the point of why increase deficit in a good year. Looks like he was building on something. Yet false statements all over this thread.
One more thing. The Chinese are and have been responsible for creating and letting that virus loose. Besides the deaths, the impact to our deficit is huge and yet when Trump tried to blame the CCP it was xenophopic and racism. We just swallow it and move on with tails between our legs.

This thread isnt about the pandemic, it was PRE-pandemic, so stick to the bumped thread and do not turn it into something about China.
I got a bit vocal because it is so lame when threads multiple years old are bumped just to try and make a point, there is no reason for you to bump a thread and try to spin something when you obviously did not read the thread or you would never have bumped it, you look quite foolish trying to turn a deficit thread into something about how great the UE rate was because of Trump, which on its own right is so stupid the UE rate was not low due to Trump no more than the massive spike in the UE rate after the pandemic was about Trump, neither has any reality you are just gripping to find some way to bash a DEM and pat the hair flipper on the head.

Let's see if I can break this down for ya.
Our 2020 deficit was 3.1 trillion, 2021- 2.8 trillion, 2022- 1.4 trillion, 2023- projected at 1.5 trillion. With that in mind I searched for a "deficit thread". Someone must have been bitchin about it in the past, maybe conservatives during the tea party movement? But I found this one.
Then I see this statements and claims; Can someone tell me why we are running these massive historically high deficits with literally nothing to show for it? If we are going to spend like this it should be for the benefit of the median income and under group, not the elite and corporations.

So I looked up if median income and under group were benefiting. I was median income and I felt I had more money in my pocket at that time. Found unemployment lowest and household income highest ever.

I actually stated that the economic environment had been pristine for 15 years and that is thanks to the FED and ZIRP, the point of the thread was that a certain someone campaigned on principals and differentiation, he inherited an awesome economy, historic low rates, awesome UE numbers, pretty much calm seas everywhere and given that he bashed the crap out of anyone before him and had grandiose throw up from his mouth non-stop, the unfortunate truth is when someone craps on everyone else, the expectation is that much higher, the bar that much higher.
I never thought Trump would be a strong economic president, he has no personal history of being fiscally responsible, setting an example by how he lives his life, runs his companies, how he makes choices but hey the fat mouth spoke so he has to own it...thats the thing about Trump, he never owns up to anything negative or words that are not fulfilled, he can say whatever comes to that wacked out mind and nobody holds him to a bit of it, that is how a little ego jerk thinks and lives. I respect someone like Bernie Sanders more than Trump, Sanders never claims to be a fiscally responsible politician, he does not personally attack and belittle people, he will dog someone about a political position but never a personal nasty attack and he owns what he is, does not run his mouth and then hide when the bill for dinner comes, unlike Trump.
So yes the thread had its purpose that the greatest outsider to ever live conned his way to the office on the back of many claims and words, he got handed an excellent economy and dovish interest rate environment, he did nothing with it but tweet and golf and bash people, his fiscal performance was awful, but that is how he has always been so it is nothing new.
Trump has not earned your adoration, respect or trust he has not developed a relationship with citizens of this country that encourages unity, hope, respect, kindness. The guy only cares about his selfish interests, find a better higher quality candidate than this schlep who has no respect for women, minorities, adversaries, for anyone but himself.
