Trump has a history of praising dictators because he wants to be one of them. His role models include Orban, Xi Jinping, Erdogan, Dutlerte. and Kim Jong. He touts endorsement from thug Putin. His first wife says Trump has a copy of Hitler's book. But unlike Trump, other US presidents almost never praise dictators with bad human rights records.
Author of book "Strongmen: from Mussolini to present" warns against the danger of downplaying or dismissing Trump rhetoric as non-serious or joking. Dictators always brag about what they would do. For years, He has abused power and violated laws. For example, inciting a coup to illegally stay in power. Republican Cheney warns US is sleepwalking into a dictatorship.
