Who said it was tolerated when it happens to cops? Tossing shit at an athlete in an arena falls to said arena to police. It's easy to identify the guy and toss him, ban him from the building, etc. Criminal charges are likely not issues. Tossing shit at an officer it assault. It usually happens in a riot setting and is by no means is tolerated. If they are able to identify the suspect, they will for sure arrest him/her, probably violently, and he/she will be facing serious charges.

No, its allowed in NY Stump.
Videos of New York Police Department officers being doused with water and pelted with objects in separate incidents surfaced on social media on Monday, including one clip that showed officers getting drenched as they were making an arrest.
NYPD officials called the videos “reprehensible.”
In one video, somebody hurled a bucket that hit an officer in the head while he was making an arrest in Harlem. Groups of jeering bystanders could be heard reacting as people continued to splash the officers with water.

Nothing happened that you saw on a video but i'm sure arrests were made. Now, if by nothing happened, you are talking about crowd reaction, well there isn't going to be much negative reaction from rioters to acts done to police officers sent to disperse and/or detain said rioters. Especially if said rioters are rioting (in their own mind) about police. You're trying to draw parallels that just don't exist.

@StumpTownStu
Not that it matters but 91% of rioters who were arrested in Portland were not prosecuted. Being arrested doesn’t mean much in a lot of these cities that have had rioting in the last year or so.

I think the issue he is trying to make is NOT whether they are arrested or not; but that some folks look at it completely differently, depending on who is assaulted.
The people that are 'okay' with assaults on cops view 'all cops as bad'. They do not view athletes as 'all bad'. So, the assaults on cops are viewed by these folks as somewhat justified and acceptable.
There is outrage by the media, as if it is the worst thing to ever to happen to the sports guy. In the other case it is simply seen as more of a part of the job.
In one case it is 'shocking and totally unexpected'; in the other case it is 'almost expected and a hazard of the job'.
I think most rational folks see both instances as assault and both should be punished.

@Doja45
I think today it’s ok in The Great state of Oregon to burn & loot when one of the .002 % of policemen in this country act atrociously and the rest of the bunch are screwed when the man or woman don’t comply by dropping there weapons or run with them “ like the lovable young lady in Columbus Ohio who was shot while trying to stab a unarmed person.etc etc etc ....Why do folks find so easy to excuse bad behavior in a spit second and blame law enforcement in the same timeframe...I just don get it !

Same in Seattle........LEO's were pelted with everything in the book......very few arrests made & charges were dropped for most of them. Yet video arises of a 7yo kid that got hit with pepper spray during a riot (who takes a 7yo to a frikkin riot?) & the media/city council did everything they could persecute the police..........sickening.
