Chargers win, but I think Panthers keep it close. Steve Smith has Delhomme back throwing to him, and team is healthier than last year. Take the points...

I think Steve Smith is suspened for this game for punching his teammate
If nobody takes that into account when either posting, or betting this game they have no idea what they're saying and obviously betting on it with no idea what they're doing
San Diego should romp !

this game scares me..... 9 1/2 on the opening week... you have to be crazy to lay that......
steve smith is not playing for two games..... but fantasy football experts are saying d'angelo williams is supposed to have a big year.... that being said LJ ripped up SD D last year week 4 in SD... and Adrian Peterson broke the NFL rushing record against them last year... (by the way i lost my suicide pool pick on that one last year, my fault for taking a road team)
carolina has a history of playing up to competition and then blowing it against shitty teams....
I took SD in my suicide pool.... so I am on SD for the game.... but 9 1/2????
i'd tease it maybe... but even then i'd take carolina with 15 1/2 and maybe lower the NE spread to 11 1/2....
I dont' have a strong feeling, just some quick thoughts..... hope i can help

also heard that Fox is going back to that smash-mouth style of running, and without waste-of-space deshawn foster in the backfield, it may finally work..... no way I'm laying 9 1/2

9.5 is too high- carolina can keep it close. This game will be won on the ground old school ball control. One team gets up by one TD or couple FG's and ride it out- under may be my play also.

Make no mistake I'm a huge Chargers backer. If they don't contend for a Superbowl it's a dissapointment. However, in this game. Neither the Line nor the total makes a lot of sense. Both these teams are run first, which will keep the clock going. It should be feild position with SD winning because of advantages on offense such as their recievers. 41 is way too many points. SD wins a low scoring game.

see.... i don't see it that way.... i see LT running all over this team.... like one of those LT vs. Denver games.... I think they will win by a lot and I think it will go in the over.... that doesn't mean i have the balls to lay 9 1/2 before I have seen either team in NFL action... but I would take the over to be honest...
just my thoughts

More I look at this more I am liking Carolina- think they may surprise some people this year if their rb from Oregon can give them some attitude back and Delhomme stays healthy.

While the Chargers will welcome back their stars with open arms, the Panthers will have top receiver Steve Smith on the sideline. Coach John Fox suspended the three-time Pro Bowler for the season's first two games after he punched cornerback Ken Lucas in practice and broke his nose.

All three players were nursing their injuries into training camp, but are expected to play in the season opener. "I'm looking forward to it," said Tomlinson, who led the NFL with 1,474 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in 2007. "It seems like it's been a long preseason. ... I'm excited about this week and excited to get back on the football field." Tomlinson said his knee is "100 percent ready to go," and that he has no concerns about testing it early in the season. Rivers and Gates haven't progressed quite as much, but expect to improve as the season continues. Rivers said his knee "feels better than I could have imagined it. It's going to be really key to keep staying on top of it. I've been told by many people that know the deal that it's going to get tired if you let it. It's the strength. It'll run out of gas quicker. Just keep filling up the tank." Gates isn't 100 percent, but said, "The more I get out there, the more reps I get, the more I get used to it. That's all I can really do at this point, is just go out and play as hard as I can and let everything else take care of itself." San Diego's Shawn Merriman is taking the same approach against the advice of medical professionals. Four doctors have recommended the star outside linebacker have surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee, but Merriman decided to play this season before addressing the injury. "To be as simple as possible, I just want to play football," Merriman said. "That's what it comes down to. I know what's on the table, I know what's on the line. I put a lot of work in this and I want to play." If Merriman and the Chargers' other marquee players can shake their injuries, the team is considered a favorite to win its fourth AFC West title in five years and perhaps even represent the conference in the Super Bowl.

I'm going with the Chargers -9. They have too much offensive firepower for Carolina to contain. No Steve Smith, Delhomme is going to have a hard time passing. Mushin Muhammad is their best option w/o Smith and he doesn't look too good. DeAngelo and Stewart are a good RB tandem but Chargers rushing D is pretty damn good. They've worked hard in the offseason in that area after getting burned by AP for 296 yards.

I'm going with the over 41.5 in this one, seems everyone's healthy on the SD sideline except for Merriman, so I'm leaning towards + points. Delhomme has a healthy arm but no Smith, as long as I get it under 10 I'll take SD as well.

3 team teases are a bookie's dream... 3 different outcomes.... 3 chances that a statistically sound pick go wrong.... think about it, you have 3 chances to lose.... that lowers the statistics of winning the bet..... 2 teams pretty much have to win the game..... 2 teams with recently injured quarterbacks.... 1 team on the road.... extra vig if you lose.... all on week 1 before you see any nfl regular season action... all resting on the fact that LT doesn't run all over the carolina defense and have a 3 td LT holiday.... which if he doesn't do that, it would be un-LT-ish....
all in all a bad tease.....

Hmmmm, I think it's a good tease. I figure Carolina will score at least 14 points (Giving me 35.5 with my teased 21.5) especially against a banged up team that has a history of being slow out of the gate, and all they have is Tomlinson who against a Dr's order is playing, and very well could be knocked out in Q1. Rivers and Gates..... Now they shouldn't be playing at all and more than likely all three of these injury laden cronies will get limited play.
As far as NE and Indy, they will both win hands down Straight up and probably by 17 or more points. Now that I ponder this teaser even further, I think it's actually a GREAT teaser. Come on back tomorrow after the game and help me count my money. As a matter of fact, you place a bet on the same teaser and I will cover all your loses if you give me 1/2 your winnings. That's fare enough don't you think? See you at the Bank.

See I like CAR +8.5 for the reasons above, but all in all, I might have Teased SD down to under a FG. I'm not great at teasers cus I always add too many games but IMO, if CAR beats 8.5 they will obviously beat 21.5, if they do not beat 8.5, That means SD has complete control of the game, and 21+ is not out of the question.
SD won't lose this game and teasing em down takes it to a great number. BOL

I am on Carolina with the points as well today. I expect a good year from them, they're due. Injuries to SD offensive stars does not slow them down TOO much but I think the Gates injury is more serious than the others. Simply too many points.

Panthers vs. Chargers -9 (3 units) - the Panthers are going to have a tough time scoring without Jake Delhomme's favorite target. While the SD defense is banged up with Merriman I fully expect them to take care of business. The Panthers defense looked sharp in preseason play and might return to form from a few years ago when they were near the top. LT didn't play any in the preseason, as usual, and now he is without his super backup Michael Turner. Philip Rivers will turn to Chris Chambers early and often, which will open up the middle of the field for Gates and Vincent Jackson.
