This is the NFL we're talking about here! All the players are pros.
The offensive line is the absolute centerpiece of any offensive strategy...run, pass, play-action...it all depends on the effectiveness of the line. 4 starters out is disastrous. And it's proven the last 3 weeks to be killing the Eagles in no trivial manner. And this week they lost another tackle. That is HUGE.
Think of it this way...Dallas'opening day starting line was Tyron Smith, Nate Livings, Phil Costa, Mackenzy Bernadeau, and Doug Free. Now imagine if for this Eagles game the starting line was Jermey Parnell, Nate Livings, Ryan Clark, David Arkin, and Derrick Dockery (the only guy left who can play tackle on roster).
Now tell me Dallas wouldn't get absolutely crushed with that God-awful back-up line. They couldn't beat a team in the NFL with those guys.
My point is Philly may be better off with their back-up offensive line than Dallas would, but any team in the league would be seriously short-handed and in real trouble with those sheer amount of o-line starters out.
There is no way one can say they are all pros so they'll be fine. That's just not how the o-line world works. Not in the least. Especially when you have Jay Ratliff and DeMarcus Ware staring you down across the line. Mark my words, the MCoy will often have to chip block on pass plays to help Vick stay upright. And consequently his effectiveness in pass routes will be limited, unlike last year.
Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne on the corners are light-years ahead of Newman and Jenkins that Philly receivers abused last year. It's just not the same match-ups in the areas that Philly exposed Dallas so strongly with last year.
I bet against Dallas just as much as for them, if not against more...this week belongs to Dallas. Give me a few more starters back on the Eagles o-line and I might change that bet the other way...but that's just not the case here.
