This is a big game for both teams. Denver has high hopes after a dissapointing 2007 campaign. With Jay Cutler's diabetes in check, Denver has hopes for reaching the playoffs this year behind the 3rd year emerging star. Lane Kiffin enters his second year with the pressure building. Oakland has been no less than the worst team in football since the 2003 season, posting a combined 19-61 record. That losing has enabled the Raiders to draft into skill positions that will hopefully begin paying dividends this season. DeMarcus Russell, a former #1 pick, finally inherits this team. The Darren McFadden era also starts tonight. Jay Cutler will be without his favorite target tonight, Brandon Marshall, who is serving a suspension. Denver is just 2-10 ATS inside of the divison the last two years. But, Oakland is 1-8 ATS over the same time span in close games (lined at -3 to +3).

im going with oakland here cuz im hoping the raiders finally have a half decent yr. plus in a close game im liking the fact that denver is missing their golden leg in elam. i dont even know  their new kicker

Oakland has covered the spread the last 4 times in a row they have played Denver. Denver has lost the first game of the season vs the spread in four years either. In addtion Broncos are without their best WR and deep threat Brandon Marshall ( suspended). Gotta go with Oakland here

i like oakland ovr.  even though denver usually wins oakland except for last meet, i think oak has lots to prove.  they got their crazy fans at home to pump them up too.  seems like everyone likes under.  Under seems too easy and i think rb's for oak will bust holes to make TDs.

Raiders are not great but the stats for home dog on MNF are hard to ignore.

Oakland in the Over.... that's my pick based on denver not covering the last few years on opening day.... their top wr out.... the rookie class this year has been amazing so far, and the fact that mcfadden was hands down the best out of them makes me think he'll have a decent game, and if he doesn't vargas will.... i also think if denver plays catch-up, cutler can sling the ball and put points up.... Russell look ok in preseason, but he might not have to do much.... i think oakland's D is better.....  i see oakland controlling this game and covering at home....

Broncos -3 (+107) (3 units to win 3.2) vs. Raiders - this game is very evenly bet across the board no matter where I look.  It seems the general public is putting more stock into JaMarcus Russell, DMac, and the Brandon Marshall suspension.  This should really be a laugher, although with Oakland being at home on MNF to start the season it could be closer than expected.  The Denver defense is underrated and they should be able to handle Russell and his erratic arm... he supposedly has tons of power but hasn't shown much consistency or accuracy yet.  Javon Walker was questionable coming into the game but practiced over the weekend and should start.  Cutler still has options other than Marshall since he is out.  Brandon Stokley and Eddie Royal both have excellent hands and don't mind going over the middle, and then you cannot forget about Cutler's favorite target in Tony Scheffler.  Scheffler has actually taken a back seat to Nate Jackson although that really is only seen on paper in the starting lineup.  Look for Selvin Young and Andre Hall to get it going early with bruiser Michael Pittman spelling both of them on 3rd downs.

There is one thing I learn to hate about Denver, and that's Mike Shanahan. Almost every time Denver is favored by 3, I feel like it always comes down to one last possession, and the same scenario goes like this:

Denver has the ball near midfield, with over a minute left, and 2 or 3 timeouts left. Plenty of time to drive down the field and win the game with a TD. Instead, he calls conservative plays, rushing or short passes, to get into good field position, to either freaking tie the game with a field goal, or win with a field goal, which in either case, they end up losing anyway. He seems to always try to put the faith of game in his kicker, which was Elam, at the time.

So, the Denver backers have to watch the 1.game winning FG attempt, in which we will lose by a point or two, 2.watch the kicker miss and go into overtime, and hope that they try and win with a TD and not another FG, 3.he misses FG and they flat out lose the whole game.

This shit happens to often, and it has been embedded into my head. I can't remember a team I hate betting on more then the Denver Broncos. I made a promise to myself, and can be located somewhere on covers.com, that I will never bet on Denver, as long as Coach Shanahan, the offensive genuis from the San Francisco 49ers, is no longer the head coach and decision maker of the Broncos.

Sorry for the rant. Looking at this thread brought back painful memories.

Denver Broncos (-3 Points) at Oakland Raiders

Two old rivals meet in Oakland to start the season, as Denver comes calling on Monday night. The Broncos expect this to be a break-out year for QB Jay Cutler. That said, their best receiver last year, Brandon Marshall (102 receptions) is suspended for the first three games of the season. Other good receivers include Brandon Stokley, Darrell Jackson and Sammie Parker- and a couple of real good tight ends in Tony Scheffler and Daniel Graham. Their defensive got bigger up front and their defensive backs are the strength of the team. Running backs are adequate. They include Selvin Young, Andre Hall, and Michael Pittman. The Raiders are banking on QB JaMarcus Russell to lead them out of their doldrums the past few seasons. However, they spent a load of money on some average players coming off injuries rather than on offensive line help to protect Russell. Those players are Javon Walker and Tommy Kelly). They could have signed some defensive help, but didn’t do that, either. Their scoring defense was 28th in the league last year and won’t improve much this season. The Raiders ran the ball well last year with Justin Fargas, but couldn’t pass up drafting dynamic all-purpose back, Darren McFadden, from Arkansas. He’s been running well in the pre-season. Another back in the fold is Michael Bush, who broke his leg and missed all of last year. The Biggest problem for the Raiders as this season unfolds is their best skill position players, Russell and McFadden, are both young, inexperienced and will make mistakes. Also, the o-line remains shaky, and the defensive front seven is the same group who struggled last year. Jay Cutler helps Denver beat the Raiders…a team in a state of confusion from ownership to coaching to the players on the field.

Another weird pick out of me but I am going to roll with the DOG @ home tonight.  I have some faith in the Raiders here and I think I know why.  They have a great D with arguably the best CB duo in the NFL and this offense might show people a little something here with the 3 headed monster that is Mcfadden, Fargas and Michael Bush.
