NE could probably sit all starters on both sides and still cover this spread. Is there any reason to think the Dolphins win or cover here? This line smells fishy (no pun intended).

In the Dolphins 6-1 record on the road this year, only two wins were vs. quality teams (Green Bay & NY Jets [who played terrible and beat themselves IMO]). All the rest were cupcakes - Buffalo, Minnesota, Cincy, etc. Chad Henne and the rest of the offense will need a huge day to compete in this game at all. NE hasn't scored less than 31 points in their last 7 games. Hard to believe if they score that many that Miami will score more to win.

Patseys have nothing to play for, last year they lost welker in a meaningless game but you never know with these guys. Week 17 is the hardest week to call in the NFL, Im just going to have some beers and watch the games.

Traditionally, Bellichek has had his guys play thru till the final gun. Miami is a different team on the road, especially against division opponents. The Dolphins are 6-1 SU & ATS as road warriors.
MIAMI + 3.5 (LARGE!)

so you think the starters will play the whole game, and the dolfags will still cover?

Temps in the 50's with possible rain showers. Gotta take NE to cover anything less than a TD. Miami just going through the motions. NE 3rd string will still be playing strong.

Sounds like he may start but obviously they won't take any chances get him out of there early and let him rest for the games that matter. I'm gonna take a shot with coaches and players worrying about jobs over the team that has home-field already locked down -- Dolphins +5.5

Dolphins have a tendancy to rise up and play well against top level teams. After two straight up & ats LOSSES maybe they get their act together for the final game of the year (for them).

New England - 17 Miami - 14

These are tough games to call , becuase you dont who is going to start or finish the game , Can the 2nd string of NE beat Miami and why should NE care if they win or lose ? the 2nd string doesnt want to get hurt either, Ive seen games where the colts clinch and just dont even try , with an attitude of lets Eh , lets just go through the motions, thats generally NOT how Bill Billacheck is , but he has no reason to get any of his players hurt.
no bet - and if you do Dolphins +3.5 ( get the hook)

Have any of you guys know anything about the Pats or Belicheck? They'll play their starters for minimum 3 quarters. First off, they want their home win streak to stay in tact for Brady and the team. Secondly, if they sit the starters then it's a 3 week layoff. Belicheck will want his team to be game ready so by playing his starters for a majority of the game will provide that insurance. Belicheck will use this game as a practice game for the playoffs. He'll try plays and formations that he doesn't use regularly to attempt them at game speed. Lastly, when have you every know Belicheck to not want to absolutely dominate a team. If the score is 31 -3 at the half I see Hoyer coming it and seeing the second stringers but the Dolphins always play tough. It will be closer than you think but Pats pull it out to extend the home win streak.

The Pats have looked good all year and I believe they'll go the distance this year and take it all. In 07', the year NE went undefeated until the SB, NE appeared as if they were running out of gas about 3/4 way thru the season. In 08' Brady gets hurt and their season falters. Last year, the Pat's defense, along with the injury to Welker, crippled them badly. This year it appears they have all the pieces in place. Yes, their D isn't dominating mainly because of their youth, but after that loss to Cleveland, NE has been razor sharp (sans the clunker at GB, but nevertheless a win). Which brings us to today.
I think BB will want to keep his team at the peak they're playing now and will leave his starters in until mid 3rd quarter. The team has a 2 week rest coming up and this game will allow them to remain undefeated at home. I highly doubt BB will treat this as a D2 game, and it's smart to build a lead and then give your guys the needed rest. Will Miami then get a back door cover? Not with Chad Henne and his 18 INT's at QB.
The public seems to be thinking in the same direction because the line has moved to -6 when it was 3 and the 1st 1/2 line is -5.5. I locked in at -3 early this week, but if I were to bet today, it'd be on the under at 44.
Pats win 24-17 and I just saw that Welker and Deion Branch are sitting. The under looks better still.
