The last time I took the Jets, I felt victim to the infamous "butt-fumble" by Mark Sanchez. I actually still have nightmares of that game. The Bad News Bears/Jets have become the laughing stock of the league.
BUT....with Sanchez out of the picture, I could see a re-focused team that will probably give a decent effort this Sunday. And if you take into account all the injuries suffered just last week for the Chargers (Malcolm Floyd now on IR & Ryan Matthews now on IR). And the questionable list for the Chargers looks equally bad: 2 linebackers - Takeo Spikes and Demorrio Thomas, and nose tackle A. Franklin are all questionable.
The Chargers actually have a decent run defense (7th ranked in the league). But when you hear all those injuries on the defensive side of the ball, you have to wonder how effective they will be this Sunday in a meaningless game. The Chargers should also have a beef with the schedule makers. They recently flew across the country to Pittsburgh, then back to San Diego, and after only 1 week, they now have to fly across the country again to New York for another 1:00 east coast start time? I know the Chargers have been travelling on Fridays for the cross-country games, and I imagine their players will be more interested in doing some Xmas shopping, catching a Broadway show, taking pictures by the tree, or god knows what else? Its the Big Apple and they have a pointless game against the Jets. You think they will be looking at film all weekend?
For the record, I think both these teams are miserable. But the Jets are the healthier team, and will be slightly more motivated given all the ridicule from the media. Not to mention, I am sure there are a lot of guys on the defensive side of the ball that have been waiting for Sanchez to get benched all season. Just keep in mind how the Jets played against Arizona when Sanchez was pulled.
While I should be a little hesitant to back a rookie quarterback making his first start, I think the Jets defense will be re-energized and force multiple mistakes by Phillip Rivers who hasn't been able to shake the turnover bug all season.
I think the Jets fans will get a little hope this holiday season that they just might have a capable starting quarterback for next year.
JETS ...I hope!! And Merry Christmas!!

I initially posted the SD on 12/17 after watching Jets terrible game against Tennessee. Since then, I have reviewed this game more closely and have decided to take this game off my play list for this week.
NO PLAY.
