Contest will start at the Farmers Insurance Open on January 23rd and run 28 weeks through the Wyndham Championships for the regular season.
Each week you select TWO golfers that are in the field for that tournament. You cannot duplicate picks at any point in the season...you must also list all previously used golfers to make my life just a little bit easier. You get the score for those golfers you select. A winning pick will receive a -10 bonus on their finishing score. A missed cut, withdraw, disqualification, or made cut did not finish will receive a +5 penalty from the worst FINISHING player for that week.
There will be EIGHT double points weeks throughout the season. The FOUR major tournaments (PGA, Masters, US Open, British Open) as well as the WGC-Mexico, WGC FedEx-St Jude, The PLAYERS, and the final week Wyndham Championships.
All players must be picked by the time they tee off. Once a player tees off you are not able to pick him. There is no exceptions to this rule...once everyone tees off on Wednesday or Thursday the contest is closed for that week and anyone that didn't pick players gets a double missed cut score.
I keep track of all scores, I am human, I make mistakes. I can guarantee I'll make a mistake somewhere along the lines. Just like in regular golf, we work on the honor system here, just bring it to my attention and I'll look into it and make it right.
During the FOUR majors we also have a 3rd round bonus pick...before the tournament begins pick any player in the field and if they shoot the lowest score in the 3rd round you will get a -10 bonus. There are no restrictions on the bonus pick...they can be someone you have used before in the season, they can be someone you picked that week, and you can use them in the future as a regular pick.
The playoffs will run three weeks starting with the Northern Trust and end with the Tour Championship. The amount of players that make it to the playoffs will be determined by how many regular season participants we have. It's been 16 every year I've done this as we usually have between 20-25 that make it through. The exact format of the playoffs will be determined somewhere around the middle of the season but will more than likely be the same as the past couple years.
You do not have to make a pick every week but any missed week will be a double missed cut score obviously. I'm pondering the idea this year to have a "free" week where if you don't get your picks in it doesn't count against you...everyone would get one "free" week.
