Playing the weather card here on these plays. Forecast is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler than Friday with the winds picking up later in the morning/ early afternoon. The cut looks to be around -2 or -3 to make it to the final round. With that in mind, I am making these two plays:
K Chappell -115 over K Kisner: Chappell is a very solid ball striker and hits the ball low which should work out really well in the higher winds. Currently he sits very close to the cut line at -2 for the tournament. Kisner is struggling this week. He had seven bogies on Friday and that was with hitting a ton of fairways. He currently sits at +3 for the tournament and needs a really low round at Pebble in the cold and wind to make the cut. Both guys are very solid players, but with the cut line being where it is, along with the weather and wind on Saturday, I believe Chappell pulls this one out.
W McGirt +225 over J Day: Taking a shot with the huge dog here. Yes I realize Day won the last tournament he played in. And yes I realize he has played really well the first two rounds of this tournament. But don't forget he seems to be having nagging back issues. He almost pulled out of the Farmers at Torrey before winning that tournament. I still think he is swinging ridiculously hard based on the physical issues he has been having. With the temperature being about 10 degrees cooler and the winds picking up (Day is known to be a high ball hitter), perhaps some of these physical issues will creep back into play on Saturday. McGirt played solid on Friday and is within striking distance of making the cut. I will take a shot with the big dog in this situation.
Betting almost half the amount on McGirt as I am on Chappell. If either guy wins it will be a profitable day...
