Before we started seeing some crossover fights there was a lot of debate as to the talent pool being a lot better in Pride than UFC. But now that we have seen several Pride veterans come to the UFC and lose to supposedly "lesser" fighters, it seems like the talent in the UFC is just as good if not better than Pride.

Anyone have any thoughts on this match? Should be interesting to see how Sampras fares against the current number 1 in the world.
Anyone know if there is going to be a time released on this match?

Johnson needed a birdy on the par-3 18th hold to become only the fourth PGA player in Tour history to hit golfs magic number. Unfortunatly he pushed the ball into a bunker before chipping out to within two feet and hapily putting in for a new course record and a 60 on his score card.

Serena and Venus both dominated their opponents Sunday to advance to the finals. Serena looked particularly strong, and if she stays healthy for the duration of the tournament I think she could win it all.

Becks move from football to soccer has been less than smooth. Not only did he show up injured and miss a few games, but he proptly got re-injured... and will miss a few more games. To add insult to... injury.. Becks team, the LA Galaxy, is struggling in the MLS, much like the MLS is struggling in the US.
This Becks experiment has disaster written all over it.

Did anyone see the Austrian steeplechaser stumble and go face first into the hurdle? It was pretty gross, he split his lip and cut his jaw pretty bad.

(CFL.ca wire) -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders acquired import running back and returner Corey Holmes and non-import receiver Chris Getzlaf from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday in return for import receiver and returner Jason Armstead.
Armstead has recorded 15 receptions for 226 receiving yards and a touchdown through eight games with Saskatchewan this season. In 58 career CFL games, the Mississippi product has made 192 receptions for 2,792 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns while returning 120 kickoffs for 2,260 yards and 219 punts for 2,303 yards and three touchdowns.
“Jason Armstead is an explosive addition to our offence and special teams, a true difference maker,” said Ticats general manager Marcel Desjardins. ”Corey Holmes and Chris Getzlaf are quality players and people. Corey in particular has been a delight to be around and has been a true professional both on and off the field. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would like to thank Corey for everything he has done for this organization during his tenure in Steeltown.”
“Jason has proven to be a threat as both a receiver and a punt and kickoff returner and that is exactly what he will do for the Tiger-Cats.”
After beginning his CFL career with the Ottawa Renegades in 2004, Armstead was selected by the Roughriders with the third overall selection in the 2006 Ottawa Dispersal Draft. Armstead was named a CFL and East Division All-Star in 2005.
Holmes returns to Saskatchewan where he spent his first five seasons. The 30-year old was dealt to Hamilton along with Scott Gordon for the first overall pick in the Ottawa Dispersal Draft after the 2005 season. In 18 regular season games with Hamilton over the last year and a half, Holmes picked up 443 rushing yards, 896 kickoff return yards and 199 punt return yards.
Holmes was the West Division nominee for Most Outstanding Player in 2005 after racking up 899 rushing yards, 523 receiving yards, 1,157 kickoff return yards and 835 punt return yards for the Riders. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2002 and 2005. He was also named the Most Popular Saskatchewan Roughrider as voted on by the fans in 2005.
Getzlaf was drafted by the Tiger-Cats in the fifth round in the 2007 Canadian Draft. The Regina native played two seasons for the University of Regina Rams and had 73 receptions for 1,286 yards in 16 games. Getzlaf has spent this season on the Tiger-Cat practice roster.
“Almost every trade you make is bittersweet,” said Roughriders general manager and vice president of football operations Eric Tillman. “Obviously, we want to thank Jason (Armstead) for his contributions to our club and we wish him every success. Hamilton is getting a very good football player.”
“That said, we are thrilled to acquire Corey and Chris. Corey is a multi-purpose talent and, of course, one of the all-time class individuals in the Canadian Football League.”
“Chris is a young man we liked very much coming out of the Rams program. With development, we believe he has a bright future in Green and White.”

Fourteen, fifteen, maybe even sixteen – anyway, it was a damn long time ago, Alan Gooch, a few other UCF coaches and I routinely ate in a faculty/staff cafeteria trying to consume some reasonable facsimile of beef stew and very watered down ranch dressing on our salads.
He was an assistant coach, I was an assistant in the sports information department and our lives, heck our immortal destinies, hinged on how we did that weekend against some other school that either A) had a direction in its title B) was named after a Catholic saint or C) was a state, but had less electoral votes than we had fingers.
Cut to today, Gooch is now the man for the Orlando Predators. I’m running one of those indoor leagues without nets and many of us who sat in that lunchrooms have now worked their way up the ladder.
So as your arenafan.com first stringers both work their way home and try to recover from a non-descript championship game and the weekend’s debauchery, which should hit the Florida crew somewhere between Pensacola and Tallahassee if my intel on Lucas’ intake is accurate, let us seasoned semi-retirees opine about the big picture and life lessons learned from Monday’s classy affair (That’s right – the Predators put on a classy event. I did that type that.) in the bowels of the Amway Arena.
This is one of the feel-good days because the focus of attention revolves around a good guy who worked his way up the ladder from decent player to graduate assistant to assistant to interim head coach at his alma mater, moves over into administration when the new regime takes over, ventures into either real estate or tourism because, hey, this is Florida, and then gets the break and can return to football without leaving his hometown.
Along the way, coaches like Gooch have the opportunity to touch some lives, give some kids some much needed direction and help them exceed expectation, get through those bad days and make things better than they were when it started.
So it might be cool to have the mayor of Orange County – still basking in the glow of vote that gives Orlando a much-needed new arena and stadium renovation much to the chagrin of two whiny, clueless local newspaper columnists – to introduce Gooch and the Preds’ owner, a fellow UCF alum – see, it’s who you know as much as what you know – say that he’s the right man to take the team to new success. It’s cool to have to the photo op with his name on the back of the jersey and the wife and kids dressed in Predator regalia. It’s cool to have the TV guys who’ve been around for millennia throw some softballs about how difficult will be to wear Preds colors instead of UCF black and gold.
But Monday was just another step on the ladder. And the climb is just as satisfying.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The WNBA had more male head coaches last season than ever, a development the author of an annual diversity study of the league called "a positive sign."
"I think for me it was a sign of the WNBA kind of growing into a self-confident organization that is just going to hire the best person available, and if it happens to be a man they're going to give the opportunity to the best person," said study author Richard Lapchick, who annually evaluates the gender and racial diversity of all major pro sports.
"I saw it as a positive sign," he said.
There were just 15 women assistant coaches in 2006, the lowest total since the league's first few seasons and down from 17 the previous year, according to the report released Tuesday. The number of female vice presidents dipped from 23 in 2005 to 18 in 2006.
More WNBA teams were hiring men in several areas, from assistant coach and even trainer, researchers from the University of Central Florida's Institute of Diversity and Ethics in Sport found.
Just three head coaches were women in the 2006 season, the lowest total ever. But two more women were hired at the start of the 2007 season -- Karleen Thompson with the Houston Comets and Jenny Boucek with the Sacramento Monarchs -- bringing the total to five, the previous low in 2005.
The study did downgrade the league slightly because there were fewer opportunities for women. The league got an A for race but slipped to a B+ for gender. In 2004 and 2005, the WNBA received A's in both categories.
Women did gain ground in some areas. Women working in the league office increased from 16 to 33 in 2006, and no men held vice president positions. The number of female team physicians doubled from three in 2005 to six last season.
The number of women with an ownership stake in a franchise doubled from two to four after Carla Christofferson and Kathy Goodman replaced Jerry Buss as the owner of the Los Angeles Sparks. The previous two female owners were Colleen J. Maloof and Adrienne Maloof-Nassif, both with Sacramento Monarchs.
A WNBA spokesman did not immediately return telephone messages left early Tuesday afternoon seeking comment.
