First off, I hope I'm not the first to tell you this...but don't believe everything you see in the movies. I teach history for a living and have searched as well as read countless reports from historians who specialize in the history of slavery and all of them say that there is no evidence that "Mandingo Fighting" ever really happened. Slavery, as brutal of an institution as it was, was all about making money as fast as possible. Cotton was guaranteed money. Big money. To risk a portion of that income in what might result in the injury or death of what would be one of the strongest male hands on the plantation just does not make sense if you think about it. I'm not saying it never happened...but there is no historical evidence that it did. If you find some, please let me know. As to comparing College Football to the institution of slavery itself, well...I'm just not sure that makes any sense sir.
