$$$$ Kansas -2
Great value in this line getting the most consistent team in NCAA basketball this year to win by anything more than a bucket against a known tournament choke artist. This line will be -3 by tip without a doubt. Villanova has played great pressure defense which has resulted in their efficient offense and transition game - Unfortunately for them they are playing one of the only teams left with the guard depth to be able to handle the pressure. I am also thinking that Kansas should out rebound them and limit their second chance opportunities - This Villanova team scores a fortune of points off offensive rebound kick out 3's - I think our defensive rebounding can limit that far more than their previous opponents. Believe it or not, Villanova was not a "deadly" 3 point shooting team all year. They have been red hot all tournament and I think that will need to continue for them to beat this well rounded Kansas team. I bet they don't shoot quite as well and Kansas controls the game winning by 7-14 points. |

The Badgers shot 29.6% from 3 against Xavier, and 21.1% from 3 against Pittsburgh. For the season Wisconsin shoots 35.1% from 3. 3) If anything ND has been shooting field goals at a unsustainable rate. They shot 58.1% from the field against Michigan. They shot 56.9% from the field against SFA and almost lost. For the year they shoot 47.6%. 4) If you discount Wisconsin's 2 wins because it was a coin flipish at the end of their games, you have to discount ND's win against Stephen F Austin as that was even more of a flukish win. Also I think most would agree that Wisconsin's 2 opponents, Pitt and Xavier, were better teams than Michigan and SFA. My pick is Wisconsin +1.5. I like their grinding defense even against great offense like ND. Koenig getting his shooting touch back, Happs post game and NDs general bad defense I think will be enough for the Badgers to get the win. Hopefully NDs subpar defenders help Hayes play better offensively. This is not a big play for me and I dont really like the games today. I was flipping back and forth between betting Wisconsin or Iowa St but settled on Wisconsin. Wisconsin +1.5 I 100% agree with you that Wisconsin has a very strong defense but I don't consider them an athletic defense like SFA - Wisconsin is a high effort defense and I feel like ND will be able to get in the 70's - Do you think Wisconsin can score 70 in this game?

in College Basketball 1. Offense, offense, offense. ND can score where as Wisconsin is a nightmare. Their best player is in his worst slump of his career. ND has shot over 54% from inside the arc this tournament. Wisconsin would need an absolute 180 degree turn around to score enough points to win this game. 2. Augustine is the prototypical player who dominates weaker comp but gets bullied against the Kentuckys of the world. Tonight he will match up with a good freshman who he will handle for a double double. When Augustine is scoring and rebounding ND is tough to beat. 3. Coaching - Bo Ryan is watching this one from home. Brey is a tournament vet coach who knows this ND team inside out. Overall I think the scoring will be too much for Wisconsin. This is a team that had low expectations going into the conference tournaments - They have well exceeded them but it's time to go home. Good luck!

$$$$ Wichita State -2 vs Miami
1. Defense. I think the Wichita State defense is going to give Miami a great deal of headaches. Miami wins games based on guard play but Rodriguez is no VanVleet and he is physically weaker. Miami runs their offense off of pick and rolls constantly and I think that the quick Wichita front court will help disrupt this. Miami would have to shoot absolutely lights out from 3 to win this game - McClellan is capable but I just think the Wichita defense is going to be rabid tomorrow. 2. Miami is downtrending and Wichita is absolutely rolling right now - Miami have turned it over 60 times in the last 5 games. They struggled a bit with Buffalo who is by no means a defensive juggernaut. At times it seemed that Miami just couldn't get stops and had no flow on offense. Miami is allowing opponents to shoot over 35% from 3 during the last 5 games. Wichita, well we have all watched the last two games.... 3. Intangibles, effort, and shooting - I think it would be difficult for anyone to argue that Miami beats Wichita head to head in the above 3 categories. The chemistry and amount of time these kids on Wichita have played together is extremely rare to have. This coach has them 100% buying into playing angry and they will be flying around tomorrow. I think they have an edge in 3 point shooting which is always important during tournament time. I think Wichita plays another great, dominant defensive game tomorrow and they win by 4-10 points. Good luck!

Everyone is on the Huskies and I am not surprised by this because bettors tend to favor the hotter team coming into the tournament and also Connecticut obviously has better tournament history than the Buffaloes who have very limited success. The X-factor for me in this game is Josh Scott and to a lesser extent Wesley Gordon. These are two really good players on the glass and that is going to be an enormous advantage for the Buffaloes in this game. Do not have any confidence in Brimah slowing down Scott without getting into foul trouble and the big man depth for UCONN does not have much talent. The paint should be where Colorado thrives in this game and there should be plenty of 2nd chances for a top 5-10 rebounding team in NCAA basketball. For a game that should be pretty defensive and lower scoring any 2nd chance points are huge in addition to cleaning up on the defensive edge. As I cap this game I think Connecticut is actually going to need a really strong outside shooting game to be successful in this one. If you break down the Buffaloes schedule they tend to struggle against teams that can match them in the paint and bang inside and I don't see Connecticut being that type of team. Colorado profiles similarly to Cincinnati and Temple. The Huskies lost twice to each of those 2 squads twice and only beat Cinci thanks to that miracle heave in the conference tournament. GL - I think Brimah will handle Scott on the interior. I do think Scott will get his on mid-range jumpers and such as Brimah isn't stepping out past the FT line. I think the Uconn defense is top 3 in the remaining field and they have great depth in their scoring with so many people getting involved. I wouldn't be surprised with a UCONN double digit win.

in College Basketball Quote Originally Posted by gambleholic63: This $$$$ is for THURSDAY. I will try to remember to re-post this pick in the Thursday thread. First let me say that I logged on to post this pick and was surprised to find the previous poster with a vastly different opinion. Last week, I posted Notre Dame over Duke in the ACC tournament as one of my $$$$ plays because I questioned Coach K's desire to play 4 games in 4 days in the ACC tournament leading into the NCAA's. Duke laid an egg in that second half and went away in the ACC, not necessarily as planned, but certainly providing the 7 deep rotation a much needed 6 days of rest as opposed to a grueling 4 games in 4 days leading up to the NCAA. Duke has played the 14th most difficult schedule in the country and, as many may forget, is the defending champion. This is a team that is stocked with McDonalds All Americans that has faced top level competition all season long. On the other bench, UNCW has played a schedule littered with the 130th-200th ranked teams in college basketball. The biggest name on their schedule, a very disappointing 13-16 Georgetown squad, beat them by 10 points. I analyzed the UNCW schedule and could not find a decent team on it. Period. The 25 wins here should be largely discounted due to their 149th ranked strength of schedule. I did take a moment to read the post above mine and was surprised to see the claim that the length of UNCW would cause Duke problems. I was unaware of UNCW and did not know the starters. What did I find? UNCW starts 4 guards at 6'0", 6'1", 6'5" and 6'5" with a 7' center. Duke counters with 6'2", 6'5", 6'5", 6'9" and 7' Plumlee at center. Thus, if anything, I think it will be UNCW facing a severe height disadvantage at EVERY position vs. a significantly more seasoned opponent than what they are used to seeing. My final point deals with the pace of play. UNCW will push the pace, but I doubt this will lead to any advantage. Pushing the pace will lead to more possessions per team. Increasing the number of possessions will only widen the Duke advantage. Duke has been playing 7 players for two months with games every few days. They are now coming off 6 days of rest, so I think they will have the legs to run UNCW out of the gym. I am looking for a Duke 14-16 point win. My pick is DUKE -10 $$$$
I am on Duke -9.5 - Book it

Tulsa This is a great game for Michigan to come through again and I think they almost certainly get the WIN tonight. 1. Game is being played in Dayton which is about 2 hours from campus. The crowd should be majority Michigan fans as Tulsa is 12+ hours away and no chance their fans travel. If this game was being played in Florida you could bank on a home court advantage type feeling for Michigan, never mind 2 hours down the road from campus. 2. Two teams playing on opposite levels. Michigan beat a tough Indiana team that many people had going to the elite 8 or better up until that loss. Tulsa is coming off their worst stretch of the year losing by 22 to an average Memphis team. Yes, I know Michigan got beat up by Purdue but here's why it won't happen again.... 3. Michigan's issue is with front court size. Playing in the BIG10, Michigan is at a major disadvantage against other teams forwards. With that said, Tulsa starts 6'9 and 6'7 at forward and they are not scoring threats at under 7 points a game each. Michigan has been beat up in the front court all year but they won't have to worry about that tonight. 4. Michigan's strength happens to be Tulsa's weakness. Michigan is a strong shooting team. They need to shoot well to win and they did that in the BIG10 tournament. Tulsa on the other hand allows opponents to shoot over 20 3's a game at 36%. This might be acceptable for a team with a dominate front court to beat Michigan up as usual but they don't have that and they are going to struggle tonight on both ends of the court. Take Michigan -3.5 before it moves to -4 as it already has on most books. |

If they are leading which is by 2 with under 2 mins, the losing team will foul so there goes your extra 2 for the push or to win. Seen plenty of them already with just under 30 seconds for the cover had it not for them desperate foul to get the ball back in anticipating for the 3 ball and for the come back. Worst comes to worse, overtime and -2 to -4 is still a probable strong for 5 minutes in overtime. bet with confidence. Line movement is public and bookie issue. The real issue is if a team is going to show up or not. |
