A Wellington punter is in for a nervous night in front of the television as he sits 80 minutes away from collecting the maximum payout from the TAB.
The man has successfully picked the first seven winners of the eight second round NRL matches, setting up a tense evening's entertainment as the Rabbitohs host the Sharks at 9pm.
After placing a $5000 multi bet on all eight favourites, the punter has watched seven favourites come in this week and now needs just one more for a bumper pay day.
If the Rabbitohs win, the man will collect $250,000 - the maximum payout for any single TAB multi. And he will be confident of collecting given the Rabbitohs are red-hot favourites tonight, paying only $1.22 to win compared to the Sharks' $4.
It's rare for all TAB favourites to win in any competition but a number of 'favourite' punters are also in for collects, with several smaller multi bets also finishing on the Rabbitohs, making this potentially one of the biggest single payouts on rugby league in TAB history.

Souths will get a a penalty early on, advance down the field, score an easy try. Reynolds will convert it. Then Souths will get another penalty, march down field, then score again.
The sharks will then get some posession, maybe a penalty or 2 after being starved of posessions. They will enter the Rabbits 20 but will drop the ball.
The game will then go through the motions, until just before half time when Souths will score another try and the commentators will be sucking Inglis dic#.
Then the 2nd half will start, but Souths will score early. The Sharks will then get a flood of posession through penalties and will score a try after a repat set.
Then they commentators will start alking about a comeback to keep people interested, but Souths will score again.
Enter the last 5 minutes of the game with the game gone, watch for Merritt to come in field and really start looking for the ball so he can cash his last try scorer ticket. Never seen anyone who wants to score the last try as much he does in my life. No doubt, he and his close abo mates place this bet every week.
Another monday night, another dud game where asking 2 teams to turn up is simply asking too much.

Do the 'books' allow the hundreds upon hundreds of thousands bet upon the Bunnies walk out the door.
They 'run' the NRL remember.
Sharkies although in turmoil are talented and were 2-0 ATS (1-1 SU) against the Rabbits last season. They were also 6-0 ATS last season when getting a spread of 6.5+.

Was an inflated line to begin with Yoda. Only reason it's double digits is the 'drug cloud' over the Sharks and the recent trainer sackings but last I checked it's the players that play the game on the field not the coaches or training staff.
Turmoil either motivates or destroys and it generally shows up on defense. Sharks defended relatively well last week and have all but been written off tonight. Bunnies beat up an un-gelled Chooks outfit, Sharkies spine is intact and the inclusion of Gordon at FB only makes them better. Taking Souths with the hefty start is basically counting on Nulla not showing up mentally, IMO. They have the talent on paper to hang if not win...
