It's a private comp of 75 people. It's a sizeable upfront fee but that allows to distribute weekly $$$ for winners

what about the state of Australian teams once Melbourne enters the mix ?

Diluting the talent pool even further, on face value it doesn't look like a good thing. Although it gives more (mugs) a chance at S14 level
