outright winner betting strategy to kick things off
backing argentina + france as the value odds with a view that if one or both can reach the semis then this would open up some hedge opportunities. might back scotland if they lose to ireland in the pool stages and their price goes out.
Argentina @ 41.0
France @ 46.0
the most open of world cups imho,
1) none of the major teams has home advantage,
2)hosted in a country with some interesting weather conditions ,
3)all the teams have got closer in their abilities and therefore lessened the gaps,
4) definitely going to be some upsets in the pools which would shuffle the cards with the seeded knock out plans( NZ +SAF same pool / eng, france and argentina same pool / scotland ireland and the hosts same pool / )

why dont they have the knockouts for the rankings like they do for the junior world cup ?
it is the matches which involve the lesser nations which create the excitement. the rwc is such a massive thing for the teams outside the top table that im sure they would love to have the opportunity to play knock out matches versus their peers and the teams at the lower end of tier one. we see far too many matches between the top teams that imho, seeing them play their 8 knockout games kind of washes over me. its the rankings knockouts that i want to see. i dont see any barriers with regards to the logistics, the stadiums are there, the offiicialdom is there, the fans are there, it would surely be a further financial boost to the tournament, and if they were concerned about selling tickets, then that would easily be solved by lowering the prices for these rankings knockout matches, surely spreading the game is the main purpose of the whole event ? i really dont understand why they see the benefit of these matches for the junior world cup, but not the big boys version.
any thoughts ?

i keep saying this every time a rwc comes round,
why dont they have the knockouts for the rankings like they do for the junior world cup ?
