When our vet has to put dogs/cats down they wrap them tightly in a blanket and they have just a regular deep freezer they store in until you want to pick them up or what we do here is have the pet crematorium pick them up.  So yeah, freezer is best bet

 Yes, great suggestion.  We haven't done that but know many that have.
